Key Job Responsibilities
In this role, a Shop Welder is a skilled tradesperson who fabricates, assembles, and repairs structural components for large machinery and equipment used in the mining industry.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and always wear proper PPE.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding procedure specifications to determine welding sequences and layouts.
- Prepare metal components by cutting, grinding, and shaping to precise measurements using thermal and mechanical tools.
- Perform welding processes such as flux‑cored arc welding (FCAW) and others to join structural steel or alloy parts in various positions.
- Inspect and test welds visually and via non‑destructive testing to meet quality and structural integrity standards.
- Select appropriate metals/alloys for specific welding tasks and troubleshoot welding issues.
- Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment and adjust parameters for different materials.
- Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and other trades to ensure proper alignment and fit‑up before welding.
- Maintain detailed records of welding activities, materials used, and inspection results for project documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Experience: Must have 1-2 years minimum of uninterrupted experience using FCAW process.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in multiple welding processes, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of AWS D1.1 welding code and related standard
- Soft skills: Attention to detail, teamwork, problem‑solving, and ability to work in varied or challenging environments.
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $$28.80 - $37.40. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
