Job Purpose
Design, build, and operate mission critical software services that power Komatsu's automation products. This role leads the definition and delivery of small features across distributed autonomous services such as machine coordination, equipment management, navigation planning, collision detection, and safeguarding. The Software Engineer II partners with product, hardware, and operations teams, mentors other engineers, and drives scalable architecture, quality, and operational excellence for mine sites worldwide.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Producing and maintaining high quality, tested and efficient code, following industry standards.
- Developing proof of concepts for new, innovative solutions.
- Performing analysis and estimating work as well as creating and updating software architecture and design artifacts.
- Understanding Modular applications domain and pro-actively interacting with product teams to improve functional and nonfunctional aspects of platform components.
- Mentoring other team members.
- Delivering technical presentations to team members and project leadership.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, or related discipline; Master's preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 2+ years of professional software development experience building and delivering complex software systems to customers.
- Strong programming skills and proficiency applying object oriented design patterns and clean code practices.
- Experience with REST APIs.
- Experience across the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, automated testing, and production operations.
- Hands on experience developing automated tests at the unit, integration, contract, and system level and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to instrument and monitor services and apply operational excellence practices to troubleshoot and improve production systems.
- Understanding of security and data privacy best practices and ability to apply them in system design and implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and influence technical decisions within the team.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including occasional international travel.
Desired Skills
- Experience with event driven microservices; familiarity with cloud native deployment patterns and containerization.
- Experience with network protocols, distributed application debugging, and performance analysis.
