Job Purpose

Design, build, and support mission critical software services that power Komatsu's automation products. In this entry level role, the Software Engineer I implements well scoped Stories within distributed autonomous services, translating defined requirements into maintainable code and automated tests with guidance from senior engineers. The engineer collaborates with product, QA, and field teams to deliver incremental improvements, follows established design and coding standards, and grows proficiency in the product domain, tooling, and operational practices.

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including occasional international travel.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 0-2 years of professional software development experience (internships, co-ops, and relevant project experience may be considered).
  • Demonstrated programming ability in at least one modern language; working knowledge of object-oriented fundamentals, basic design patterns, and clean code practices.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs (consuming and implementing simple endpoints with guidance).
  • Exposure to core SDLC practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, and automated testing.
  • Ability to write and maintain automated tests primarily at the unit level, with some guided exposure to integration testing and CI pipelines.
  • Basic familiarity with diagnosing issues using logs/metrics and following established operational practices when supporting production services.
  • Working understanding of secure coding concepts and data handling expectations; follows established security and privacy practices.
  • Strong collaboration skills: communicates clearly, seeks feedback early, and learns quickly in a team environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with event driven microservices; familiarity with cloud native deployment patterns and containerization.
  • Experience with network protocols, network programming, and distributed application debugging and analysis.
