Shape the Future of Mining with Komatsu Mining Technology Solutions: At Komatsu Mining Technology Solutions, we're not just talking about progress and innovation - we're making it happen. Our cutting-edge Modular brand solutions are powering mines worldwide, driving efficiency and sustainability in ways that seemed impossible just years ago.

Job Overview

Build the Architecture Behind Systems That Move Hundreds of Tons of Steel!

At Komatsu, we're solving problems most software professionals will never encounter.

Every day, our software directs fleets of autonomous haul trucks weighing hundreds of tons as they move millions of tons of material across some of the largest and most remote mining operations on Earth.

These are not simulations.

These are not prototypes.

These are production autonomous systems operating 24/7 in harsh, dynamic environments where safety, reliability, and performance matter.

We are looking for a Software Architect to help shape the future of FrontRunner, the world's leading autonomous haulage platform.

We are looking for someone who can define and evolve the architecture of large-scale systems while balancing technical excellence, operational realities, and long-term business needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and guide the architectural vision for complex autonomous software platforms.
  • Establish scalable, resilient, and maintainable system architectures that support current and future business needs.
  • Partner with engineering leaders, product management, and domain experts to translate strategic objectives into technical direction.
  • Drive architectural consistency across teams, products, and technology domains.
  • Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance on critical architectural decisions.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks before they become operational challenges.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and design patterns to improve system capabilities and developer productivity.
  • Mentor engineers and technical leaders in architectural thinking, system design, and engineering best practices.
  • Influence technical roadmaps and help align investments with long-term platform strategy

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience architecting large-scale distributed software systems that have been successfully deployed and operated in production environments.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience in system architecture and technical leadership.
  • Strong expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and performance engineering.
  • Strong software development background, including experience with Java and modern software development practices.
  • Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams and organizational boundaries.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and technical leaders.
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Autonomous systems, robotics, or industrial automation experience.
  • Distributed control systems.
  • Real-time software systems.
  • Cloud-native architectures and distributed platform design.
  • Networking and distributed application troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in safety-critical or operationally critical environments.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
