Job Overview

The Principal Technical Instructor/Developer is responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive training programs that enhance technical skills and knowledge. This role involves developing curriculum, creating instructional materials, and conducting training sessions for various technical topics. The instructor will also collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content, while continuously evaluating and improving the training programs to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design & Develop Training Programs: Oversee the development and evaluation of comprehensive course including objectives, competencies, lesson plans, instructor guides, assessments, and training material. Lead Train-the-Trainer programs for dealers and mine site trainers globally. (20%)
  • Conduct Training Sessions: Instruct technical training classes pertaining to internal personnel, subsidiaries, distributors, and end-users, ensuring hands-on learning through lab and field equipment, and manage logistics for smooth execution of training events. (20%)
  • Subject Matter Experts (SME) & Product Support: Act as the SME for relevant ultra class mining equipment, supporting internal stakeholders with expert guidance on machine behavior, operator error, and operator inefficiencies. Provide feedback to engineering, product management, and R&D on machine performance, usability, and field challenges.  Continuously evaluate and improve training programs to meet the evolving needs of the organization. (30%)
  • Mentoring: Assist and provide guidance to other developers as assigned, in the absence of the Training Manager. Mentor other instructors in development of training material, training lab, and field equipment. (20%)
  • Evaluate Course Effectiveness: They perform in-depth needs analysis on course effectiveness and collaborate with Senior Instructor to revise materials continually as content and approach changes dictate. (20%)
  • Coordinate Global Training Initiatives: Collaborate with regional teams to replicate training programs and labs. Coordinate outsources and internal training projects to ensure high-qualifty deliverales align with department goals. (10%)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: Associate degree (A.S.) Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), or Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) or bachelor’s degree, EET, Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME) or related military training/combination or work experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 15 years of experience developing / instructing technical training in the field(s) of heavy equipment or mining.
    • In addition, combination 15+ years of experience as a heavy equipment technician or service related work with machine control systems such as mechanical, electrical, air, hydraulic, or computer.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Hands on experience with CE or mining class product. Deep knowledge of the subject mater and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly. Ability to remain calm and flexibility to adjust teaching methods.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in training and technical service are a plus 
  • Travel: >50% domestic and international travel.

    • Understand and describe fundamentals of AC drive system technology.
