Job Overview
This position is to assist the Manager Supplier Quality in coordinating and directing companywide efforts to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions within the supply chain. Assist in supplier qualification endeavors including supplier audit and evaluations. The Supplier Quality Engineer function is achieved through supplier development, corrective action resolution, error prevention and continual improvement activities that desired Quality levels of KAC Peoria products are achieve the desired Quality levels.
The Supplier Quality Engineer is involved with both internal manufacturing quality performance and supplier quality performance. Each Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible to lead the quality related activity for suppliers world-wide. International travel is required to perform supplier audits and problem resolution.
Solutions to quality issues require technical interfacing with all divisions within the Peoria operations. The quality of decisions made by the Supplier Quality Engineer impact the timely shipment of finished goods and the resulting magnitude of the manufacturing spoiled work and salvage accrued by the Peoria Operation. In addition the position plays an important part in reducing and/or eliminating issues in the field which has a direct relationship to reducing and/or eliminating warranty costs and improving customer availability. The Supplier Quality Engineer is considered to be an “expert” on Peoria Manufacturing Operations supplier products
Key Job Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct supplier audits to assure supplier processes and Quality systems are appropriate for Komatsu product and capable of consistently achieving desired quality levels at optimum costs.
- Determine type and degree of control necessary to assure conformance of the manufactured and purchased product shipped. Take the lead with appropriate supplier, KAC engineering, purchasing and sourcing resources to ensure non-conforming product is not used and the supplier’s quality processes are correct.
- Manage and administer the “Corrective Action System” to achieve the timely documented corrective action for product non-conformance. Report results and actions I.e. maintain meeting minutes, action plans, etc.
- Analysis data and prioritize action plans for supplier improvement (Warranty Claims, Technical Service Information, Defect Notices, etc.)
- Monitor, develop, chart, report and present specific Quality Indices (weekly, monthly, quarterly and year) for internal and external use.
- Develop and issue detailed procedures to facilitate the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (to assure compliance and clear process understanding).
- Lead quality improvement effort (QC Circle) with a cross-functional team as required by individual research and prioritization of quality issues. Investigate and provide manufacturing, purchasing and sourcing with the disposition of nonconforming products.
- Participant in Safety effort (Safety Circle).
- Manage and administer Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new supplier submissions, revised part, corrective action and etc.
- Additional duties as defined by management.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or other technical field.
- Prior experience 5 years minimum.
- An ASQC certification as a Quality Engineer (Preferred), Quality Auditor (Preferred), and other ASQ certifications are preferred.
- Preferred ISO internal auditor, with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Strong communication (oral and written), presentation and leadership skills.
- Requires ability to use consistently use personal Computer with key programs such as Outlook, Excel, Office, Windows, etc.
- Perform work in all areas of supplier quality (castings, forgings, fabrications, machining, electrical, purchased parts components. heat treat, etc.
- Proficient quality and problem solving skills 8D, 5P, Control Plan, FMEA, APQP, etcetera with ability to teach basic problem solving techniques and facilitate problem solving team events.
- 25% Travel is required (passport). National and International.

Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $78,500 - $98,100. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
