Job Overview
As a Field Technician at Komatsu, you will be integral to our mission of delivering timely and effective repairs of machine components within our service shop. This role demands a high level of technical expertise and adherence to safety protocols while working with advanced machinery and equipment.
Your responsibilities will go beyond just mechanical repairs; you will be expected to maintain efficiency standards, rework rates, and comprehensive knowledge of various job codes as outlined by Komatsu Equipment Company (KEC). By achieving and surpassing the performance metrics, you will contribute to our overall goal of exemplary customer service and operational excellence.
Scope of Work
In your capacity as a Field Technician, you will:
- Uphold an annual repair efficiency of at least 85%.
- Ensure yearly rework hours remain under 3% of billed hours.
- Adhere to standard repair times set forth by KEC job codes outlined in PFW.
- Achieve balanced scorecard goals specified by the company.
- Maintain a satisfactory average score on the Technician Competency Matrix, emphasizing both Technical and Soft Skills.
- Exceed safety standards and compliance measures as defined in the Safety Section of the Competency Matrix.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Accurately complete assigned jobs within established flat rate times and monitor re-do metrics closely.
- Prioritize safety by strictly adhering to KEC and customer-specific safety policies and regulations.
- Efficiently manage related documentation, ensuring timely and accurate completion of work orders, parts requisitions, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Database Systems (DBS), and other essential systems.
- Implement proper contamination control measures and comply with all HAZMAT regulations.
- Skillfully disassemble and reassemble components, testing and adjusting assemblies with minimal supervision.
- Provide customers with accurate quotes and pricing estimates, demonstrating excellent customer service.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and present viable repair recommendations.
- Thoroughly test and validate the functionality of all repairs made and adjustments performed.
- Apply general failure analysis procedures for effective troubleshooting and diagnosis of complex issues.
Qualifications/Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is mandatory; an Associate Degree in Diesel Technology or equivalent is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of related experience or training is required, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
- Flexibility to accommodate various work schedules, including shift work, is essential.
- Ability to comprehend and follow simple instructions, along with short correspondence and memos.
- Capable of writing clear and concise correspondence.
- Effectively communicate information to customers, clients, and co-workers in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations in various units of measurement, handling whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Adept at calculating rates, ratios, and percentages as well as solving problems requiring these calculations.
Familiarity with database management software, internet applications, manufacturing software, and order processing systems is essential.
Ability to apply intuition and experience along with data analysis to tackle issues effectively.
Exhibit prompt responsiveness to customer needs while maintaining clarity in both spoken and written communications. Demonstrates the capability to balance teamwork and individual responsibilities.
Maintain a high level of accuracy and thoroughness in tasks while adhering to productivity standards. Actions reflect a sense of responsibility and commitment to quality.
Ability to adjust to a dynamic work environment, displaying a commitment to observing safety protocols and reporting unsafe conditions.
Additional Information
- Certification to operate a forklift and/or manlift is required.
- Completion of a DOT physical may be required.
- MSHA certification is a prerequisite.
- Respirator certification may be necessary based on work conditions.
Possession of a basic mechanics toolset that aligns with the minimum requirements outlined in the Komatsu technician tool list is necessary.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and hazardous chemicals.
- Frequent encounters with wet and humid conditions, as well as high and precarious work situations.
- Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, and vibrations.
- Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.
