Job Overview

This part of our business is a key growth segment and over the past few years, we’ve made important acquisitions to strengthen our position in this market. This position works on the TimberPro product line which serves as the basis for growth by offering a wide range of purpose-built machines and attachments.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to creating engineering documentation and providing leadership to Design Engineers for technical guidance and documentation release which supports Procurement, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales and Service meeting customer expectations of performance, quality, cost and delivery.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Utilize 2D/3D CAD and PC Programs to develop project plans, create concept designs, complete component drawings, complete assembly drawings, create BOMs, and/or design control systems and schematics which complete respective vehicle chassis designs utilizing respective supporting engineering technical documentation such as Komatsu Engineering Standards (KES) and ISO Standards, etc.      
  2. Communicate effectively; write clear concise memo’s including drafts of technical documentation such as Parts and Service News PSN, Operation Manuals OM, and Shop Manuals. Discuss, negotiate and resolve specification issues with Manufacturing and Suppliers during prototype development and pre-series production. Submit technical documents summarizing Design Studies, Quality Confirmation Check Sheets and Trip Reports.      
  3. Assume project responsibility on assignments by providing planning, technical guidance, exchange of technical information and coordination with Komatsu engineering groups, suppliers and other functions, as required to complete the tasks as planned and scheduled. Travel to machine worksites to participate in surveys, investigate problems, understand applications, determine customer expectations, install and evaluate countermeasures, etc. (Domestic and International Travel)         
  4. Provide technical leadership in completing assignments, projects and conducting design reviews to meet Quality, Cost and Delivery targets. Demonstrate a high degree of creativity and mature judgment in anticipating and solving non-reoccurring, unprecedented problems. Understand and accommodate manufacturing capabilities and limitations. Resolve all issues with effective countermeasures and follow-up documentation.       
  5. Meet Quality, Cost and Delivery targets established for the Project. Apply a comprehensive, intensive, practical knowledge of the field experience to the development of new methods, approaches, or procedures to improve quality, reduce cost, reduce lead time, and improve testing programs etc.        


  1. BS Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or General) and approximately 5-10 years of accomplished experience in the design of related products.
  2. Proficiency in engineering principles including but not limited to structural mechanics, hydraulics, heat transfer, electricity, ergonomics, 3D CAD and data management.
  3. Proficiency in software applications including 3D CAD (Pro Engineer Wildfire 2.0 or 4.0), Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point, as a minimum.
  4. Knowledge of engineering standards in drawing practice, dimensioning and tolerancing, drawing symbols, welding practice, etc.  Use and understanding of Komatsu Engineering Standards, ISO standards, SAE standards is essential.  (However, if the candidate is being hired from another company, a reasonable time will be provided to gain this Komatsu - specific proficiency.)
  5. Ability and willingness to travel, including international travel.
