Job Overview
The Quality Technician - Production and Supplier Quality supports internal manufacturing quality activities as well as supplier-related quality investigations and reporting. This entry- to mid-level role is ideal for a technician who is comfortable with hands-on inspection work, technical documentation, and collaborative problem solving across multiple functions.
The individual in this role will inspect products, evaluate findings against engineering requirements, assist with root cause investigations, and communicate quality concerns in a professional manner to both internal teams and suppliers.
Key Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect raw components, subassemblies, and completed machines to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Use inspection and measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, Hexagon laser scanners, voltmeters, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents to understand dimensional requirements, critical features, and acceptance criteria.
- Assist in investigating deficiencies in parts, assemblies, supplier-provided components, and manufacturing or assembly processes.
- Apply, or learn to apply, structured quality tools such as 5 Why, Ishikawa, Fault Tree Analysis, and 8D to support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts.
- Create and distribute reports that summarize inspection results, quality concerns, investigation findings, and action items.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with manufacturing personnel, engineers, buyers, suppliers, and other stakeholders regarding quality issues.
- Maintain a professional and constructive demeanor during discussions involving defects, escapes, process breakdowns, or supplier nonconformance.
- Support containment, material review, verification, and follow-up actions associated with nonconforming product.
- Maintain quality records and documentation in accordance with internal procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on reducing defects, improving process control, and strengthening product quality.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- One to three years of experience in manufacturing, quality inspection, supplier quality, assembly, service, or a related technical role preferred.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools or willingness and aptitude to learn.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications, or willingness to be trained.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare factual, organized reports.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with colleagues and suppliers.
- Basic proficiency with common computer applications and reporting tools.
Preferred
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate in quality, manufacturing, industrial technology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in a heavy equipment, industrial manufacturing, automotive, or fabrication environment.
- Familiarity with supplier quality concerns, nonconformance reporting, or corrective action documentation.
