Job Overview

A Master Production Planner develops and manages a high-level production schedule, aligning material availability, capacity, and labor to meet customer demand and business objectives. Key duties include creating forecasts, developing and executing the Master Production Schedule (MPS), monitoring inventory and capacity, coordinating with various departments like sales, production, and procurement, and analyzing performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and ensure on-time deliveries. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS): Proactively create, update, and monitor production schedules to optimize operational flow and resource allocation while balancing capacity and demand fluctuations.
  • Demand Forecasting and Analysis: Prepare accurate product demand forecasts by integrating sales data, booking trends, and aftermarket service requirements; continuously refine predictions through analyzing market feedback and historical data.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the management of raw materials and finished goods inventories, ensuring buffer stocks align with production requirements and customer service targets to minimize stockouts and excess.
  • Material and Capacity Coordination: Collaborate closely with procurement, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to secure timely material availability and align production plans with the actual plant and labor capacities.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between sales, production, engineering, and logistics teams to synchronize activities, resolve conflicts, and facilitate seamless execution of the production plan.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Implement and manage dashboards tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, schedule adherence, and inventory turnover; conduct root-cause analysis of deviations and manage corrective action plans.
  • Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Support: Contribute to S&OP meetings by reviewing current service levels, inventory strategies, and future supply plans with business unit leaders, promoting alignment across organizational functions.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead and participate in projects aimed at process optimization, waste reduction, and enhancing production throughput while maintaining quality standards.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and production scheduling software is essential to execute accurate and effective production plans.
  • Analytical Competence: Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data sets, recognize patterns, and address multifaceted scheduling and inventory challenges with creative and practical solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication capabilities essential for clear and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Organizational and Time Management Abilities: Proven track record of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines consistently.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, quality assurance principles, and supply chain dynamics to ensure production plans align with operational realities.
  • Leadership and Problem-Solving: Experience leading cross-functional teams and initiatives, demonstrating a proactive approach to identifying production constraints and implementing continuous improvement strategies.
  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial engineering, operations management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications such as APICS CPIM or CSCP are a plus.
  • Adaptability and Learning Mindset: Commitment to continuous professional development and openness to adopting new tools, methodologies, and industry best practices.
