Job Overview

The training manager for technical and operator training oversees the development and delivery of instructional content supporting Komatsu products. This includes managing training personnel, coordinating course creation, and ensuring materials are current and aligned with product updates and industry standards. The role also involves scheduling training events, collaborating with subject matter experts, and managing third-party content development. Innovation in training tools—such as simulators, eLearning modules, and multimedia—is a key focus. Strong leadership, communication, and technical knowledge are essential for success in this position

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage Training Budgets and Resources: Oversee the allocation of training budgets, select vendors or platforms, and ensure cost-effective delivery of learning solutions. (20%)
  • Design and Develop Training Programs: Create engaging and effective training materials, courses, and workshops tailored to organizational goals and employee development needs. (20%)
  • Monitor and Evaluate Training Effectiveness: Use feedback, assessments, and performance metrics to measure the impact of training programs and make necessary improvements. (20%)
  • Support Employee Development and Career Growth: Collaborate with HR and leadership to align training with career paths, succession planning, and organizational development strategies. (20%)
  • Assess Training Needs: Identify skill gaps and training requirements through surveys, interviews, performance evaluations, and collaboration with department heads. (10%)
  • Stay Current with Industry Trends and Best Practices: Continuously research and adopt new training technologies, methodologies, and compliance requirements to keep programs relevant and effective. (10%)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: Associate degree (A.S.) or Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in the fields of Education, Engineering, Engineering Technology is preferred. Direct relevant industry experience may be accepted in lieu of education.
  • Experience:
    • Must have 12+ years’ experience working in the heavy construction or mining industries. Either with an OEM or in the field.
    • At least 5 years of experience in developing/conducting technical training programs preferably with heavy equipment, is considered a plus
  • Skills: The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership in instructional design, guiding the development of impactful training programs that align with organizational goals. Exceptional communication and facilitation skills are essential for inspiring teams, driving engagement, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. Strong strategic thinking and project management abilities are required to lead cross-functional initiatives, evaluate training effectiveness, and champion professional growth across the organization.
  • Certifications: Management or training certifications are a plus
  • Travel: <25% domestic and international travel

  • Interpersonal & Leadership Skills: Effective at leading teams, facilitating collaboration, and managing cross-functional communication across global training initiatives.
  • Project & Personnel Management: Manage training personnel, coordinating outsourced content development, and overseeing project goals / tasks ensuring on-time completion.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written, oral, and visual communication abilities, including audience analysis and usability considerations.
  • Curriculum Development: Proficiency in developing and maintaining up-to-date training curricula aligned with product improvements and industry standards.
  • Instructional Design & Media Development: Ability to design and produce instructional content such as eLearning modules, animations, and video programs for global training delivery.
  • Innovation & Creativity: High motivation and creativity in applying new tools and technologies to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Product Specific Skills / Knowledge:
    • Experience with Komatsu EDT Product in the form of either training delivery, technical service, or field assembly.
    • Strong working knowledge of Steering, Brake, and Hoist systems along with Tier 4 engine and aftertreatment systems.
