Komatsu is looking to add a Senior Manager, Human Resources (Distribution), based out of one of our branches in Salt Lake City, UT, or Phoenix, AZ. Location consideration will be given based on the proximity of qualified candidates to our other US branches and their ability to support a geographically dispersed team and broad-based business. 
 

We are seeking a leader with a depth of HR expertise and leadership to enhance organizational effectiveness in the following areas: Employee and Labor Relations, Business Strategy, Leadership Development & Coaching, Compensation and Benefits, Legal Compliance, HR Operations, Organizational Design, and driving Talent Optimization programs (acquisition, development, and management).  This person will serve as a trusted business partner within the operating divisions’ leadership team, supporting the operational goals of the business (e.g., revenue generation, profitability, customer service, workforce design and effectiveness, compliance, and risk management).  In addition to leading a team of HR professionals, this position works closely with the financial controller, safety managers, General Managers and Directors, and other key business leaders to implement strategic solutions to complex business problems.  Above all, this person will be a great relationship builder, is results-oriented, and always looks for opportunities to improve beyond the “status quo” by aligning with current market trends and recommending impactful solutions for the business and Komatsu’s culture.

Reports to: Director, Human Resources (North American Distribution)
Relocation: This position may offer relocation support.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Strategic Planning – participate as a senior leadership team member to discuss and establish solutions that support each business unit's long-term goals and objectives. 
  • Leadership Coaching – assisting with the individual development of key leadership competencies to strengthen and reinforce a leader’s ability to effectively engage and manage teams of people 
  • Employee Relations – collaborate with HR professionals and business leaders to determine the most appropriate and low-risk approach to employee relations issues. Achieve conflict resolution fairly and consistently, fostering employee accountability and driving operational effectiveness and results.
  • Talent Strategy – work with business stakeholders to develop organizational design, human capital planning, and talent development strategies.
  • Talent Acquisition – identifying strategic initiatives in partnership with the Talent Acquisition COE, key stakeholders, educational institutions, and local communities to source qualified candidates. 
  • Talent Development – identify solutions to bridge talent gaps through the facilitation of strategic development and succession planning sessions. Work with business stakeholders to identify high potential talent and develop plans to accelerate readiness for future roles.
  • HR Program Management & Administration – partner with COEs (Compensation, Payroll, Talent, HRIS) to align North American initiatives (e.g., compensation cycles – merit, bonus, performance management systems, incentive programs, wage administration, employee development programs, etc.) to drive desired behaviors for business outcomes and to support the culture. 
  • Employment Law & Compliance – ensure alignment with all Federal, State, and Local employment practices, policies, and standards and participate in salary and wage administration, labor practices, health safety and environmental compliance, immigration, etc. 
  • HR Operations – lead and mentor the HR team. Includes ongoing development of multi-talented HR professionals (generalists and business partners) to deliver exceptional customer service to all employees at all levels.

Skills & Qualifications:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field. May include a combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including leading and mentoring a team of HR professionals 
  • SPHR/PHR designation is a definite asset
  • Prior experience working in a multi-site environment; experience in heavy equipment, industrial, manufacturing/distribution business a benefit 
  • Experience in skilled trades talent acquisition strategies is a definite asset.
  • Labor relations with union negotiations experience is an asset.
  • Experience and ability to lead, influence, and motivate in complex matrix organizations
  • Project Management experience - implementing HR projects with national scope
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal, written, and facilitation). This includes the ability to build trust and coach leaders for impact.
  • Outstanding people skills and demonstrated success resolving complex HR issues.
  • Strong HRIS (SuccessFactors) and MS Office computer skills (SuccessFactors, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to a variety of sites across the US (up to 25%)
