Job Overview

 

This position is responsible for supporting Peoria Part’s Distribution (PPD) on the SLQDC Goals.  Contributing to activities to benefit the productivity, continuous improvement, safety, and quality of the Warehouse through process expertise and the use of process improvement tools. Incumbent will support department goals by supporting projects, solving problems, proactively preventing problems as well as help to build and sustain employee engagement. In addition, this position will support the Supervisor and the Project Manager of Continuous Improvement in accomplishing department and company goals by actively participating in development and execution of activity plans, goals, and initiatives.  

Responsible for establishing standard processes that improve the safety, quality, delivery (productivity) and cost related to receiving, packaging, put-away, inventory maintenance activities (transfers, adjustments, cycle counting among others), picking, packing, and shipping of PPD Inventory.  Will rely on the process improvement tools to optimize space utilization and picking capacity of 25,000-part numbers to achieve zero shipping errors as well as ensure work instructions, employee training and process flow diagrams are updated, validated, and recorded. 

This position has broad administrative responsibilities including supporting the different PPD teams with their updating and upholding the existent ISO procedures. Creation of documentation of assembly policies and standard assembly process as well as implementing standard work procedures (SWP) for all Warehouse processes. 

Ensure all Warehouse processes are documented, communicated, and stored in an acceptable format and forum to encourage replication of use and standardization. 

Key Job Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in process improvements as directed by Management. Duties will include forming committees as appropriate, drafting key initiatives, collaborating with multiple PPD sub-groups, preparing material for top management, and participating in the execution of the approved plans.  
  • Manage documentation and purchase orders from appropriation requests for fixturing, new and used equipment and tooling used for PMO production making sure invoices get paid in a timely manner. 
  • Safety and Law. Regular Safety Risk Assessments, Environmental Projects, Safety Circle, 5S to Area and Workstations. (Working closely with Warehouse team on meeting the SLQDC Goals provided by Management.) 
  • Quality. Review, investigate, provide disposition and work on Root Cause and Corrective Action for Shipped in Error Customers claims assigned by Records Admin. 
  • Continuously improve the process and establish process controls to eliminate shipping errors related to short or overage quantity and wrong (warehouse responsibility).   
  • Delivery and Cost. To work closely with the Warehouse Team on Delivery goals and to work with them on Cost Reduction activities and provide ideas for new cost reduction activities.  
  • Operational Support to PPD WH. (area improvement and maintenance) To provide the different areas of PPD Warehouse with the help they need when maintaining their racks, shelves, need of new labels for locations, new signage for process improvement, any kind of material needed for their daily productivity. 
  • Operational Support to PPD WH - Machine Lease maintenance. To ensure the Lease and maintenance contract for PPD Machines (Order picker, swing reach, forklift) are up to date.  Place and maintain suppliers’ orders and invoicing. 
  • Proactively identify process improvements that will improve SLQDC metrics (Safety, Law, Quality, Delivery and Cost).  Recognizes critical problem areas and potential consequences and seeks appropriate guidance to find alternate solutions. 
  • Process expert in the Peoria Part Distribution Warehouse System.   Ensures the work instructions and process flow diagrams are updated, validated, and recorded.  Including ISO and Komatsu Policies. 
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with all customers, employees, and vendors.   Foster an attitude of teamwork and cooperation in all activities. 
  • Process master data administration, creation of location, collaboration, and support on proper way to create K-requests for system enhancements or changes, gate keeper of system changes for PPD, ensuring they won't affect other teams in a negative manner. 
  • Process improvement deliverable on target.  Properly closing process improvement to the target, following up with different teams involved. 
  • Maintains purchasing of office equipment within the allocated budget. 
  • Critically analyze warehouse processes and adjust/modify to ensure continuous improvement.  
  • Train people (train the trainer) according to processes, systems, or facility changes.   
  • Support operations with Cost reduction and productivity actions.   
  • Manage and implement process improvements.   
  • Support and justify continuous improvement activities through data analysis.   
  • Ensure standardization of processes and projects implemented by CI Team. 

Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • Associate degree or 5 years’ experience applying continuous improvement methodologies in Distribution Center (warehouse distribution environment) for heavy industry, machinery.  Experience supporting Lean and Kaizen activities. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, for both daily communication and staff training. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Vizio).  Knowledge of Production and Warehouse Management system is a plus.  
  • Process improvement leadership, results-oriented and problem-solving skills. 
  • Be sensitive to changes in the business dynamics and anticipate and identify potential bottlenecks and process failures, pro-active intervention rather than re-active. 
  • Thorough understanding of Quality Management and Continuous Improvements. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to communicate with internal and inter-company contacts and to demonstrate a commitment and understanding of what is required to create a customer focused supply chain and support environment. 
  • Significant experience applying continuous improvement methodologies in an environment such as heavy industry, machinery.  (e.g. Kaizen, QC, K-Way, Lean methodologies)

Hiring Range
