Job Overview
Komatsu's Quality Engineering Internship Program provides engineering students with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a highly structured learning environment. This 12-week program offers training, mentorship, and exposure to multiple areas within quality engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain operations. Interns will support continuous improvement initiatives while developing practical skills in quality systems, data analysis, and problem solving.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Shadow and collaborate with experienced quality engineers on real projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience in manufacturing and quality operations.
- Support quality improvement initiatives by analyzing process, product, supplier, and customer quality data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Assist with root cause investigations, corrective actions, process audits, and problem-solving activities using quality tools and methodologies.
- Develop and maintain reporting tools, dashboards, and metrics using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other analytical tools to monitor quality performance.
- Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations teams to support continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Actively enrolled in an Engineering program (preferably Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or related discipline) at a 4-year accredited college or university.
- Must be able to apply academic knowledge to real-world business and manufacturing environments.
- Experience: Previous work-study experience, leadership activities, team participation, clubs, or preferred professional organizations.
- Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to new challenges, and work effectively in a team environment.
- PC Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel (Pivot Tables), Power BI, and data analysis tools. Familiarity with quality tools and statistical analysis is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Travel: Some travel may be required.
- Possible opportunity for continued part-time work throughout the school year (up to 1,040 hours per year).
Additional Information
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $18-$24. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
