Job Overview

Komatsu is currently looking to add a Senior Manager, Human Resources (Distribution) within Phoenix, AZ or Salt Lake City UT.  However, location consideration will be given based on the proximity of qualified candidates and their ability to support a geographically dispersed team and broad-based business.

We are seeking an enthusiastic HR leader with depth of expertise and leadership to enhance organizational effectiveness in the following practice areas: Business Strategy, Leadership Development & Coaching, HR Operations, Organizational Design and Talent Optimization programs.  This person will serve as a trusted senior business partner within divisional leadership teams supporting their operational goals (e.g. revenue generation, improving profitability, improving customer service, workforce design and effectiveness, compliance and risk management).  In addition to strategic partnering, this person will lead a talented team of HR professionals and work closely with financial controllers, safety managers, general managers and directors, and other key business leaders to implement strategic solutions to complex business problems and opportunities.  Above all, this person will be a master relationship builder, is results oriented, and always looks for opportunities to improve beyond “status quo” by aligning with current market trends and recommending impactful solutions for the business and Komatsu’s culture. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning – participate as a member of the senior leadership team to discuss and establish solutions that support the long-term goals and objectives of each business unit.
  • Leadership Coaching – assist with the individual development of key leadership competencies to strengthen and reinforce a leader’s ability to effectively engage and manage teams of people  
  • Employee Relations – collaborate with HR professionals and business leaders to determine the most appropriate approach to employee relations issues while mitigating risks.  Achieve conflict resolution in the most fair and consistent manner that fosters employee accountability and drives operational effectiveness
  • Talent Strategy – work with business stakeholders to develop organizational design, human capital planning, and talent development strategies
  • Talent Acquisition – identify strategic initiatives in partnership with the Talent Acquisition specialists and COE to build talent pipelines with educational institutions and local communities and maximize opportunities 
  • Talent Development – identify solutions to bridge talent gaps through the facilitation of talent reviews and succession planning sessions
  • HR Program Management & Administration – partner with COEs (who deliver programs related to Compensation and Benefits, Payroll, Talent, HR Operations, HRIS) to align performance and program initiatives that support our people and Komatsu culture 
  • Employment Law & Compliance – ensure alignment with all Federal, State and Local employment practices, policies and standards, participate in salary and wage administration, labor practices, health safety and environmental compliance, immigration, etc. 
  • HR Operations – lead HR team.  Includes ongoing development and mentorship of multi-talented HR professionals (generalists, business partners and recruiters) to deliver exceptional customer service to all employees at all levels

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.  May include a combination of relevant education and work experience
  • 10+ years progressive HR experience including leading and mentoring a team of geographically dispersed HR professionals
  • SPHR/PHR designation is a definite asset
  • Prior experience working in a multi-site environment; experience in a heavy equipment, industrial, manufacturing/distribution business a benefit
  • Experience in skilled trades talent acquisition strategies a definite asset
  • Experience and ability to lead, influence and motivate in a complex matrix organization
  • Outstanding people skills and demonstrated success resolving complex HR issues and strong coaching ability
  • High level of comfort dealing with ambiguity
  • Labor relations with union negotiations experience is an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel to a variety of sites across the US (up to 30%)
