Job Overview

Supervise the activities of the hourly inspection personnel doing in process and final product evaluation.  Provide direction in evaluating the conformance of product to specification and workmanship standards.


Provide direction for the resolution of nonconforming product.  Manage the flow of material and parts through the quarantine area (AD) as directed by the Defect Tracking system.   


Scope


Supervises up to 20 highly skilled hourly personnel covering a three-shift operation during normal work levels.  The inspection activities include all phases of manufacturing and the receiving inspection of purchased items.   

The Inspection Supervisor and the inspection department are responsible for the condition and proper maintenance of all inspection gages and equipment.  The equipment must be maintained and calibrated at all times.  This equipment includes highly accurate computer-controlled machines valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars.  The precise accuracy, availability, and effective use of this equipment are critical to achieving the high-quality levels produced in the factory at optimum cost and efficiency.   

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily activities of the inspection function to achieve short term and long-term goals for inspection work flow so as to not excessively delay production. 
  • Responsible for the gage inventories to assure availability and accuracy.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the documentation provided by the inspection employees in reporting their daily activities.  The reporting quality determines the efficiency of many individuals that are required to process the data throughout Purchasing and Manufacturing.
  • Perform the duties of all supervisors in monitoring and processing the daily labor reporting of hourly personnel time and attendance.
  • Monitors the Defect Notice documents for accuracy and completeness to assure efficient processing of the data by the many individuals that are involved in the Quality Defect Tracking System.
  • Monitors the location of all rejected items and maintains the Awaiting Disposition inventory to assure the defective products are isolated from good products and can be properly disposed in a timely fashion.
  • Recommends disposition of non-conforming items with regard to feasibility of repair or scrap. 
  • Verifies the accuracy and signs requests for deviation submitted by the Manufacturing supervision.
  • Performs the general requirements of Supervisor in regard to employee training, individual work habits, attendance and performance improvements, resolution of Union/ management disagreements, assignment of personnel to task and over time determination to accomplish departmental targets in service and expense control.    
  • Supports the company’s EEO efforts and take appropriate action to prevent harassment of employees.
  • Manage Inspection & Rejection of Material in the PPD Warehouse

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma with industrial technology specialization, apprenticeship training in machining and five years supervisory experience in Manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing processes and specific inspection techniques employed to assure conformance to specification of products.
  • Good blueprint reading skills.
  • Knowledge of inspection/ metrology techniques and the standards for calibration of the tools used.  
  • Experience in using basic inspection equipment and the ability to train employees in the proper use of the equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skill.
