Job Overview

Develop, implement, maintain & manage the Quality System within Komatsu’s Mining Division – Peoria Manufacturing Operations (PMO) using and conforming to the Komatsu Global Quality Processes, Procedures and Policies.


To direct all departments within the Global Surface Mining Group in the use and execution of the Corporate Quality Assurance processes, procedures, and measurements.


To develop, implement, manage, & be accountable for the quality policies, procedures, and measurements used by the Product Quality, Suppler Quality, & Quality Assurance Groups within PMO. Always Improving the quality of the machines and services produced by PMO and reducing costs.


To develop & implement the quality policies, procedures, and measurements for PMO key suppliers that will be used by PMO / Global Surface Mining Group in the evaluation of those suppliers’ performance to PMO / Global Surface Mining Group.


To interface directly with the KLTD Corporate Quality Group, providing PMO measurements, quality activities and action plans that support PMO goals.  To forecast, plan and manage the warranty expense and accruals for PMO machines and product.

Scope

  • Department operating budget up to $3M
  • Warranty Budget of up to $30M.
  • Support the development of product to achieve Mining truck and Aftermarket parts annual sales from $1.0B - $2.0B+ 
  • Coordinate project activity in multiple departments including Engineering, Engineering Test, Manufacturing, Sales, Product Support, Parts, and suppliers.
  • Multiple projects must be supported simultaneously at various stages of design and validation.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Direct & Manage Quality Measurements and Indices by the Product Quality, Supplier Quality and Quality Assurance Groups.
  • Forecast, plan and manage Gross Warranty Expense and accruals. Analysis of warranty claims, journal entries and commercial concessions.
  • Develop & promote Supplier Quality programs and supplier development. Promoting the Komatsu Way to our core suppliers. Manage, implement and direct Supplier Juhin processes and procedures.
  • Initiate, direct, and manage, major quality meeting and projects such as Juhin, Project M, New Model introduction, Autonomous Support care etc. which involve middle and upper management from within KAC and KMD. These activity and action plans improve quality, performance and durability of our products.
  • Provide management direction to the personnel within the Quality Group
  • Manage annual capacity cost budget to plan level.
  • Direct ISO9001 recertification and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Ten plus years of working experience in a manufacturing company. Knowledge of mining equipment, Komatsu products preferred.
  • Must have 5+ years of staff management experience.
  • Strong organization and logistical planning is required to administer a complex quality organization with global initiatives.
  • Strong managerial, motivational and communication skills are required so as to interface with all levels of management and all levels of distributor/customer.
  • Require strong computer software / database knowledge and application.
  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (life, carry, move) light to medium weights of 1-10 pounds.  Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information.  The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.


Preferred Candidates will also possess the following skills:

  • Prefer 5 years of experience in a quality assurance or quality control middle management position.
  • Prefer experience with a Japanese company.
