Job Overview

The Harness Routing Lead – Mining Trucks is responsible for leading the design, integration, and implementation of electrical harness routing across Komatsu’s electric and diesel mining truck platforms. This role provides both technical and people leadership, overseeing a team that performs 3D harness routing and 2D drawing development from a shared pool of resources. The Harness Routing Lead ensures that all harness layouts and documentation meet functional, environmental, and manufacturability requirements, delivering robust solutions that support Komatsu’s quality, safety, and reliability standards in mining applications.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers responsible for both harness routing and harness drawing deliverables.
  • Delegate work across the shared pool of routing and drawing resources, balancing project priorities and schedules.
  • Own the harness routing strategy, design standards, and best practices for Komatsu’s ultra-class mining truck programs.
  • Oversee 3D harness routing design for high- and low-voltage systems, ensuring proper mechanical packaging and environmental protection.
  • Direct and approve 2D harness drawing creation and release, ensuring consistency with routing models and manufacturing standards.
  • Develop and maintain harness routing zones, attachment strategies, and segregation rules for high-voltage and signal circuits.
  • Translate schematic-level connectivity into fully defined 3D and 2D harness deliverables using CATIA Electrical, Creo Cabling, NX Routing, and Capital Harness.
  • Conduct design reviews, interference checks, and environmental validation to confirm routing integrity and serviceability.
  • Collaborate closely with Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Service, and Supplier Quality teams to ensure integration and buildability.
  • Support prototype builds, field installations, and production launch by troubleshooting harness fit and protection issues.
  • Interface with suppliers and harness manufacturing partners to align design intent with production feasibility.
  • Drive continuous improvement in routing and drawing processes, toolsets, and team capability development.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in electrical harness routing, design, or integration — with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or coordination role.
  • Proven experience managing both routing and drawing resources within a multi-disciplinary product development environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in CATIA Electrical, Creo Cabling, NX Routing, and Capital Harness for 3D routing and 2D documentation.
  • Strong understanding of off-highway electrical systems, including high-voltage and control harnesses.
  • Experience with Teamcenter or equivalent PLM systems for configuration and release control.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, and engineering change management practices.
  • Knowledge of routing design in harsh environments (dust, vibration, heat, abrasion).

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team development skills, with experience delegating resources across multiple programs.
  • Excellent communication and coordination across functional teams and engineering disciplines.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, resolve conflicts, and drive technical alignment between design and manufacturing.
  • Commitment to safety, design integrity, and continuous improvement.

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Komatsu mining truck platforms (830E, 930E, 980E) or similar ultra-class off-highway equipment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 16750, SAE J1939, and Komatsu electrical standards.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage isolation, EMI/EMC routing, and harness durability analysis.
  • Experience managing harness manufacturing interface, assembly boards, and tooling definition.
  • Background in field testing or prototype build support for large mining equipment.
