Job Overview

This position is responsible for the identification and development of suppliers for assigned commodities.  Suppliers to be developed to support the Division’s mission of meeting or exceeding our customer’s expectations in terms of price, quality, and delivery.  In addition, this position is responsible for the development of worldwide supplier base that encourages continuous product improvement and cost reduction. This position is also responsible for development of the technical capabilities of the supplier and ensuring appropriate SQDC activities at each supplier for continuous improvement. The position requires a high degree of both technical and business capability to support fact-based negotiation as well as supplier development.

 

  • Works with Simultaneous Design Project group – AND suppliers – to identify and achieve cost reduction targets. Needs to be able to assist with identification of cost reduction ideas – and to ensure that Suppliers are engaged in the process as well so the company can utilize their expertise to achieve desired cost and quality goals. Develops cost targets and cost reduction goals for various components and suppliers. Monitors ongoing cost reductions to ensure purchased cost goals are met. Must develop detailed cost reduction targets and work with selected suppliers to achieve these goals.  Ensures that selected suppliers are both technically and financially capable.
  • Ensures, through contract arrangements, that company goals on inventory levels and delivery can be achieved.  Also ensures adequate support for aftermarket requirements.
  • Establishes overall vendor performance monitoring to include performance on SQDC objectives. Takes corrective action with any suppliers achieving below targeted goals.
  • Develops and maintains a global supplier base, reviews supplier performance reports, and meets, visits, or otherwise communicates with to ensure company goals of SQDC are met.
  • Works with suppliers to improve interfaces through use of latest MIS technology; includes e-commerce data transfer, bar coding and electronic exchange of information, delivery dates etc.
  • Reviews and settles claims with suppliers that arise, as a result of defective material, untimely deliver and lost or incorrect shipments, and warranty claims, including supplier recovery for same.
  • Directly assists Purchasing Planners on key critical shortages and/or with suppliers who are unable to achieve the agreed delivery goals.
  • Maintains records of supplier performance, tooling at suppliers, and purchasing contracts or agreements to be used when resourcing, eliminating, or negotiating with suppliers
  • Communicates promptly to all involved KAC management any significant changes in supplier’s organization, ownership, capacity, financial position, or business direction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering required plus 8 to 10 years’ experience in Purchasing or Materials Management.
  • Highly computer literate– significant skills in Excel and Access very helpful.
  • Technical capabilities necessary for cost/function analysis to support fact-based negotiation and to directly assist suppliers with technical improvements for cost and quality. Should understand process/methods for a variety of components to both assess and assist suppliers.
  • Experience in BOM structuring, engineering change and implementation, and configuration of end products.
  • Significant experience in Manufacturing Systems, Shop floor control to both understand and assist suppliers in improvement activities.
