About the role.

 

No two days are the same as you work across our customer’s mine sites applying your technical knowledge, project management & stakeholder management skills to solve technical issues and provide expert advice ensuring the best automation performance on our cutting-edge longwall mining equipment.

 

As C&A systems engineer, you’ll act as control & automation technical liaison for Komatsu with our customer’s operational and engineering teams.

 

Reporting to the longwall C&A delivery team leader, you’ll build strong relationships with many internal departments, including sales, service, engineering & production.

 

Key functions of this role include:

  • Conduct operational analysis and functional validation tests as required
  • Conduct and/or assist in investigations as required into safety and performance issues
  • Investigate reported automation and software functionality and reliability concerns, collect relevant data, generate a report for further engineering analysis and resolve where possible.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise mining automation system performance and deliver improvement initiatives that exceed customer expectations.
  • Visit operating longwall faces and work with customers to better understand their operational needs and help them achieve optimal performance of their Komatsu systems.
  • Ensure problem free start-up of longwalls and commissioning, on time.
  • Complete Audits and review drawing and BOM’s providing related updates to engineering.
  • Research and provide information to the service team in response to inquiries from the field.  Drive rapid resolution of field issues.

 

This role requires you to travel to customer’s mine sites across QLD and NSW, and potentially overseas. You will be required to maintain relevant site inductions and be vigilant toward safety, ensuring the safety of all personnel & visitors.

 

Valued skills desired for this position.

 

  • Trade or Engineering qualification in relevant discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience in mining manufacturing and engineering or in a similar heavy engineering environment with an emphasis on field applications.
  • Exposure to automated mining systems and application in an underground environment.
  • Experience in new product introduction for mining systems or heavy mobile machinery.
  • Working knowledge of mining system planning and operation at a mine site.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of field engineering problem identification and resolution processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of appropriate Australian Standards, Mines Department regulations and Hazardous Area Standards.
