Job Overview

The Drill Value Stream Manager will be responsible for Drill Manufacturing within Milwaukee Operations.  This will include day-to-day management of the value stream including hourly and salaried personnel and managing Safety, Law, Quality, Delivery and Cost.  The Value Stream Manager will also be responsible for creating and managing KPI’s for the team and working with the broader operations team including managers from other departments to ensure alignment with factory policies and procedures.  The Value Stream Manager will need to be able to create manufacturing plans to align with the needs of the business, including increased production output and new product introductions

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for SAFETY, LAW, QUALITY, DELIVERY, COST (SLQDC in this priority order) of products produced within the Value Stream(s).
  • Develop and actively manage Value Stream P&L through Financial Business Plan process and quarterly Outlook updates, accounting for variables including customer demand, productivity, production improvements and investments, and other unexpected factors, tying spending to activity.
  • Manage a cross functional organization (Matrix Organization), including Production Planners, Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers, Safety, and Quality. All driving production for owned Value Stream(s).
  • Drive an interactive and collaborative team environment internal to the Value Stream as well as across functional groups. Partner across functional and Business Unit lines and promote teamwork with other departments and Value Streams.
  • Utilize, drive, and promote understanding of Visual Factory and Lean Manufacturing (Komatsu Way) principles to ensure delivery of business objectives and a culture of continuous improvement.  Uses GEMBA as a tool for sustainment.
  • Direct the production material input and output processes to optimize inventory utilization while achieving SLQDC Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Manages the staffing needs of the Value Stream, both salary and direct hourly employees, providing direction, development, and the necessary coaching, training, and promotion of education opportunities to grow skillsets in alignment with the needs of the Value Stream.
  • Promotes a strong culture of New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring all new products are accepted into regular production only after being fully vetted during the prototyping and pre-production processes across a multi-discipline array of requirements.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for the Value Stream.
  • Intense focus on Customer Requirements, driving proactive actions and a “sense of urgency” among the team.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree required, plus minimum of 10 years related manufacturing experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years progressive production experience, including experience supervising people or a similar managerial role. Demonstrates a high level of execution and performance.
  • Broad knowledge of plant manufacturing operations and understanding of technical documents and concepts, engineering drawings and structured bills of materials.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply and explain to others, concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: to perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, accounting software, ERP and Inventory software, payroll systems, order processing systems, project management software, and manufacturing software.
  • Ability to assist with budget development and management on weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial planning processes.
  • Knowledge of technical safety and environment issues, risk assessments, safety patrol and observation processes, accident investigation, root cause identification, and safety improvement activities such as Safety Circles.
  • Ability to apply quantitative tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement, from lean and corrective action to kaizen and Six Sigma.

  • Minimal travel required, up to 10%.
