Job Overview

We have a newly created opportunity for a VP, Corporate Controller to join our corporate Accounting & Finance team. This role can be based at our headquarters in Milwaukee, WI (Harbor District) or Chicago Suburbs, IL (near O’Hare). 


The Vice President and Corporate Controller will lead and oversee the financial accounting, reporting, and analysis functions for Komatsu, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS standards. This role is integral to the organization’s financial operations, responsible for technical accounting, general accounting, and Corporate FP&A. The VP, Corporate Controller will serve as a strategic partner to Finance leaders of our two primary business segments (Komatsu North America - KNA and Komatsu Mining Technologies - KMT) and will collaborate closely with the CFO, Internal Audit, and other senior leadership on corporate initiatives, consolidations, and business unit support. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex accounting environments, M&A activities, and leading cross-functional teams, while ensuring the highest level of financial integrity.
 

Key Job Responsibilities

 

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Lead the company’s accounting operations, including technical accounting, general accounting, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, external audit requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial reporting for Komatsu Finance, adhering to relevant regulations, including financial services-specific requirements
  • Oversee financial reporting and compliance for our business units that are within our legal structure, but not part of KMT and KNA (e.g., NTC, IMO, GPU, etc.), ensuring that their unique financial needs are met while maintaining consistency with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.

Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

  • Lead Corporate FP&A processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
  • Partner with Komatsu Finance to support FP&A efforts, including credit risk analysis, asset management, and profitability reporting, to support sound financial decision-making within the finance arm of the organization.
  • Develop financial models to support strategic decision-making for the company and business units.
  • Partner with the CFO and business segment leadership to deliver financial insights that drive business performance and profitability.

Business Partnership & Strategic Initiatives:

  • Act as a key business partner to the finance leaders of KNA and KMT, providing strategic financial guidance and supporting critical business decisions.
  • Lead corporate finance initiatives, including process improvements, cost optimization, and financial risk management.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Komatsu Finance leadership team, offering financial insights that support business development, pricing strategies, and customer financing programs.
  • Collaborate with business units to align financial goals with corporate objectives and ensure cohesive financial operations across the organization.

Consolidations & M&A Support:

  • Manage the consolidation process for the company’s global operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial data.
  • Provide support and expertise on M&A activities, including due diligence, integration planning, and post-acquisition financial oversight.
  • Collaboration with Internal Audit:
  • Partner with Internal Audit to ensure robust financial controls and risk management frameworks are in place.
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors to address findings and implement best practices for continuous improvement.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing accounting and FP&A team, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and collaboration.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities to ensure the team stays current with evolving accounting standards and business needs.

Qualifications/Requirements

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification preferred; MBA or other advanced degrees preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 12+ years of experience in accounting and finance, with a strong emphasis on corporate accounting, FP&A, and financial reporting in a complex, multinational organization.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards; experience with consolidations, technical accounting, and financial reporting.
Financial Systems: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, BaaN) and financial reporting tools (e.g., OneStream, Blackline). Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis using advanced Excel and other relevant systems.
Business Acumen: Proven experience in partnering with senior executives and influencing business strategy through financial insights. Experience in managing M&A activities is highly desirable.
Leadership: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and work collaboratively across various business units.
Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
Change Management: Experience in driving process improvements, implementing new financial systems or tools, and managing change across a global organization.
Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, audit, and legal, and to build strong working relationships with senior leaders.
Strategic Thinker: Ability to see the bigger picture and contribute to long-term financial and operational goals while managing day-to-day accounting functions.
