Key Job Responsibilities
- Lead team managing sourcing activities across Komatsu North America. Identify and qualify suppliers providing products and services to meet OE and Aftermarket requirements in accordance with SLQDC principals; ensuring productivity, continuous improvement and negotiated lowest total overall cost.
- Develop and implement the commodity sourcing strategy through analysis of global markets, raw materials trends, technology, value chain analysis and long-term sourcing plans. Prepare and lead supplier negotiations. Initiate and manage RFI’s, RFP’s, and RFQ’s.
- Consolidate, interpret, and align industry research to identify qualified supplier candidates to meet Komatsu needs. Benchmark best in class suppliers. Drive and incorporate data results into actionable plans. Communicate plans to the business and ensure visible forward focused supplier plans.
- Responsible for “Should Cost Analysis” cost models for each category group to fully understand cost make-up and drive optimal cost decisions. Sourcing total cost of ownership is paramount.
- Understand type of supplier relationship required, ongoing oversight of supplier relationships for all commercial aspects including negotiations, contracts, partnerships, continuous improvements, etc. Manage supplier relationship to develop the best value proposition with coordination of key internal and external stakeholders. Manage, maintain and update all Supplier contracts. Develop plans for partnership relationship management for selected suppliers, to improve financials, reduce in house/total costs, improve quality/6S, and OTD. Provide direction and support to foster a mentoring relationship to suppliers and adapt tactics based upon maturity and track record of supplier. Ensure delivery against savings targets at required quality levels.
- Manage and utilize TCO/TLC to leverage sourcing opportunities - including considerations of local content, taxes, duties, geo-political dimensions, Intellectual Property and other factors determined by business strategies.
- Travel to various supplier locations to investigate new opportunities, improve manufacturing efficiencies and resolve any supply chain or quality issues.
- Ongoing evaluation of the supply base in market research, product quality, competitive pricing, capability, and capacity. Perform SWAT and supplier risk analysis.
- Evaluate various supplier performance metrics including related value elements, performance trends and risk analysis to ensure category strategy is working and corrective action taken when needed.
- Implement design change and model implementation. Process ECN/ERL’s according to standards with QDC principals.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in related field is required - Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or Business. MBA or Master’s degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- ERP environment experience (SAP a major plus).
- Deep understanding of supply chain and sourcing best practices along with the proven follow-through to implement.
- Strong knowledge of Supply Chain programs (Consignment, Kanban, JIT, VMI, Lean, CI, etc.) and ability to manage project execution of these programs.
- CPIM, CSCP or CPM Certification desirable.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
- MS Office aptitude.
- Must possess analytical/critical thinking skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications preferred.
- Thorough understanding of, and experience in category or commodity management with strong negotiation skills, supplier relationship management and leadership capabilities.
- Very self-motivated, must be a good communicator with strong analytical skill and the ability to build a highly professional working relationship with each supplier and internally to promote maximum benefit of the supplier agreements.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills (written and verbal) with a strong focus on customer service. Ability to influence peers and lead cross functional teams.
