Job Overview

Komatsu is searching for a State Tax Analyst to add to our Corporate Tax team. The role will provide an opportunity to obtain a broad-based knowledge in all areas of state indirect tax, while learning about and partnering with the business. This position will be exposed to compliance, accounting, and audit controversies in connection with state and local sales/use and personal property tax. The individual will deliver value through continuous process improvement in the tax compliance and reporting area. The position reports directly to the State Indirect Tax Manager but would also team with various members within the tax department. This role will be based at our Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Actively participate with the sales and use and personal property tax compliance function while working closely with state indirect tax manager and 3rd party outsourcing partners to manage and analyze data requests from inside the organization, review of return preparation, and coordinating funding requests.
  • Assist with sales/use and property tax audits, including working closely with other internal departments and location personnel, along with external consultants that may be involved in the review. Understand the technical positions maintained by the Company and timely advise the business as to risks of the audit and recommend appropriate solutions to business partners.
  • Primarily responsible for routine encounters with state and local taxing authorities for notices, administrative filings, and other correspondence.
  • Provide timely advice to financing organization for sales/use and personal property tax requests, including projecting personal property tax estimates for lease arrangements, sales tax exemption certificates, assisting with customer property tax bill-backs, and other customer related tax information requests.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate financial records of all indirect tax transactions in support of timely and reliable account reconciliations, budget impacts of personal and real property liabilities of the company and other items impacting the financial statements.
  • Actively monitor valuations and assessments for risks and opportunities. Lead the improvement of the property tax function to address business and operational changes.
  • Proactively partner with operating team to address opportunities and risks related to current business operations, including support for mergers and acquisitions.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 1-3 years of general accounting or tax experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (preferred) or a combination of Associates degree and years of experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Familiarity with OneSource software platform or other similar national software platform, the SAP ERP platform and general Microsoft Office tools.
  • Comfort in managing schedules to complete multiple projects with strict deadlines.
