Job Overview
The Senior Manager guides the Global Mining Strategy by partnering with Business Units (BUs), Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and global counterparts to translate Market Intelligence insights into decision-ready strategic alternatives, investment priorities, and an integrated 3-year rolling strategic plan (choices, trade-offs, outcomes, unified roadmap) that advances customer and business goals.
This role is accountable for decision quality and strategic alignment. Market Intelligence (MI) owns the external fact base, scenarios, and assumptions. The Program Management Office (PgMO) owns portfolio governance, execution tracking, and value realization.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Own the 3-year rolling plan discipline: calendar/cadence, integrated plan artifact (outcomes, strategic choices, trade-offs, and unified roadmap), partnering with Market Intelligence (MI) for assumptions/scenarios and Program Management Office (PgMO) for portfolio translation and execution packaging.
- Facilitate enterprise decision-making: lead cross-functional trade-off workshops, drive prioritization decisions, and maintain a decision register (decisions, rationale, owners, and timing); PgMO owns the ongoing governance rhythm, performance reporting, and execution follow-through.
- Translate MI evidence into strategy choices: synthesize MI-provided outlooks, scenarios, competitive/customer insights, and triggers into strategic alternatives, implications, and decision-ready recommendations (MI remains the source of truth for the external fact base).
- Set portfolio direction (not mechanics): define prioritization criteria, investment guardrails, and decision frames that guide resource allocation; PgMO operationalizes intake, scoring, capacity modeling, governance workflow, and benefits tracking.
- Lead the Global Mining Strategy: define where-to-play/how-to-win priorities across a 3 – 6 year horizon with a 6 - 12 year outlook; translate strategy into clear strategic pillars, outcomes, and measurable success criteria.
- Run scenario and trigger refresh: partner with MI each roll-forward to update assumptions, scenarios, and leading indicators; ensure changes are reflected in strategic choices, risk posture, and portfolio direction.
- Drive cross-BU/CoE roadmap alignment: integrate product, technology, and systems roadmaps into a unified roadmap; surface and resolve gaps, overlaps, and misalignment through structured decision forums and documented decisions.
- Validate strategic hypotheses with customers: engage key customers and external stakeholders (e.g., site visits) to test assumptions and define differentiated “success outcomes” for customers and the business, leveraging MI research where applicable.
- Integrate with enterprise planning and build capability: partner with global counterparts (including Komatsu Ltd.) to integrate mining strategy into enterprise plans (e.g., SGP); lead through influence in a matrix and develop a small strategy team/capability.
