Job Overview

The Sr. Manager, Internal Communications is responsible for shaping and advancing Komatsu's global internal communications strategy to strengthen employee engagement, reinforce the company's brand and culture, and support key business priorities. As a trusted advisor to senior leaders, this role develops compelling executive and organizational communications, drives global change management initiatives, and partners across regions to ensure consistent, impactful messaging that connects and inspires employees worldwide. The position plays a critical role in evolving Komatsu's internal communications function by building trusted relationships, enhancing communication channels, and delivering strategic communications that foster alignment across a complex global organization.

Key Job Responsibilities

•    Responsible for developing and executing proactive global internal communications strategies that strengthen employee engagement, reinforce the Komatsu brand and support key business priorities. Serves as the primary architect of messaging, personally writing, editing and shaping communications that inform, inspire and align employees around the world.
•    Elevates and evolves Komatsu's global internal communications function by serving as a trusted advisor to leaders, enabling effective top-down and bottom-up communication, and continuously improving communications strategies, governance and best practices. Builds credibility for internal communications by proactively identifying opportunities, influencing stakeholders and demonstrating the value of strategic communications. Collaborates closely with regional communications leaders to strengthen global alignment while respecting regional priorities and cultural differences.
•    Serves as a strategic partner, advisor and key resource to the global Komatsu organization, working directly with leaders, business units and communications leads on communications and global change management initiatives. Coaches leaders through communication challenges, recommends effective messaging strategies and respectfully challenges assumptions when better communication approaches are needed. Be actively involved in all aspects of strategic messaging and communication with employees. May be leveraged to support key customer messaging or presentations. 
•    Create short and long-term plans to improve global communication infrastructure including supporting technologies, resources and tracking metrics. Support the growth of global communication channels, working with digital teams, HR, IT and other communications leads to investigate the potential of expanding existing channels or opportunities to leverage new partners/vendors. Develops trusted relationships with communications partners, HR, business leaders and headquarters stakeholders around the world, navigating cultural differences and organizational complexity to build alignment on global communications initiatives.
•    Owns editorial quality across global internal communications, ensuring content is clear, compelling, audience-focused and aligned with Komatsu's voice and brand standards. Guide the creation of communications that attract, retain and engage employees with meaningful internal brand messaging and a global employment brand. Drive activation of global EVP strategy and messages, and support regional activation work through collaboration with regional HR and comms teams.   
•    Coordinate and/or support the coordination of brand, communications, sustainability and change management-related training around the world, as needed. This work may include creating the training materials, hosting training sessions, and coordinating the translation of materials into many languages to ensure maximum penetration of critical trainings. 
•    Works with the global brand strategy, specifically the Creative team, and third-party partners, when needed, for content, comms and and creative assets that support Komatsu’s presence at major tradeshows and events to increase our brand presence on a global scale. 

Qualifications/Requirements

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, PR, English, or related field; Advanced degree preferred. 
•    Certification as a Change Management Practitioner (CCMP, Prosci, or other ACMP-accredited organization) would be a nice bonus, but not required
•    10+ years of experience in communications, ideally at least half of that in a corporate setting
•    Ability to communicate and connect with all levels of employees from C level to hourly
•    Experience leading teams or coaching others would be nice
•    Exceptional writing and editing ability with a portfolio demonstrating executive communications, organizational storytelling, change communications or comparable work. Able to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling communications with minimal direction.
•    Experience leading complex, multi-dimensional projects. Able to take on a project leadership role with teams of peers and leaders.
•    Expert in the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. Exceptional writing skills. 
•    Demonstrated success influencing senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders within a complex global matrix organization.
•    Demonstrated success working across cultures and global business environments, adapting communication approaches while maintaining consistent global messaging.
•    Highly organized with excellent personal time management and project management capabilities. Enjoys balancing competing priorities.
•    Able to produce high-quality communications quickly under tight deadlines without sacrificing editorial excellence or strategic quality. AP Style proficiency is preferred.
•    Extremely comfortable in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook (MS O365)
•    Creative storyteller with strong editorial judgment and an understanding of how visual communication enhances employee engagement.
•    Builds trusted relationships easily, collaborates effectively across functions and cultures, and earns credibility through sound judgment, responsiveness and high-quality work.
•    Curious, proactive and resilient. Comfortable navigating ambiguity, asking thoughtful questions and independently driving work forward. Passionate about organizational culture, employee engagement and helping leaders communicate effectively.
