Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. IT Manager, Engineering Applications to join our IT leadership team in Milwaukee, WI. In this role you will lead a global team within the Information Technology organization supporting Engineering IT for both our surface mining division and our Peoria mining operations. This role offers a hybrid work schedule (minimum of 2 days per week in the office for collaboration, team meetings, working sessions, etc. and up to 3 days per week can be telecommuting from your home office). 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure Engineering and PLM business requirements for various Engineering packages and related functions are translated into detailed functional specifications and consider cross functional impacts, associated risks, cost benefit analysis, business justification, audit guidelines and global support requirements
  • Assign, design, configure, develop and document system change requests per departmental systems life cycle and audit guidelines
  • Develop and oversee project plans, resource and capacity planning, testing, deployment, and documentation processes
  • Discuss and implement Engineering process improvements, maintain an awareness of functional best practices, and partner with the user community and business user leadership about future technology needs and the development of a technology roadmap
  • Identify and pilot digital enablement capabilities for engineering operations.
  • Establish a multi-year strategy for Engineering applications that aligns with the OneKomatsu vision and optimizes engineering productivity, collaboration, enterprise integration, cost leverage, and minimizes company risk.
  • Establish and maintain an effective support structure to ensure strong support for engineering applications while controlling costs, including multi-tier support options, knowledge management, and queue management with service level targets. 
  • Develop a team of highly technical staff through daily and project related opportunities. 
  • Manage complex projects including application development package roll-out using agile development approach
  • Work directly with business partners to define, scope and implement solutions in alignment with business initiatives.
  • Work directly with vendor partnerships to augment staff capabilities. Develop strategic vendor relationships and implement application managed services operating model.
  • Manage budgetary spend for multiple projects and accounts


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field 
  • Engineering system configuration and implementation experience, specifically with CAD, PDM, and PLM solutions such as Solidworks, Creo, Autodesk tools, and PTC Windchill is a plus but is not required
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience 
  • 5+ years of IT management experience 
  • Experience working with IT infrastructure team (e.g. networks, servers, databases, break/fix) 
  • Functional business experience in Engineering strongly preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach and develop a high performing team 
  • Ability to establish, build and maintain relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of organization.  
  • Effective change management skills
  • Facilitation skills and project management experience with mid to large size projects
  • Financial and business acumen
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
