The Company

Job Purpose

The senior Quality Manager is Responsible for strategic, tactical and operational Quality planning and for ensuring that all product provided to customers meet customer and regulatory requirements.  This position has final accept/reject authority to ensure compliance with specified requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives continuous improvement in worker safety and ensures that each employee understands, and acts in accordance with the company’s EHS policies.
  • Establishes, publishes and maintains policies and procedures relative to the scope of the quality management system, ISO 9001, and related activities.
  • Ensures internal quality system audits and process audits are carried out to support quality management system and Komatsu’s requirements, with the goal of continuous improvement and system compliance.
  • Directly Manages a team of Quality Managers and Supervisors, Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers, and Quality Technicians. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employes; planning, asigning and directing work; apprising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Partners with Manufacturing Operations, Technical Services, Purchasing, Sourcing, Planning, and other internal departments to decrease lead times and cost while simultaneously improving quality, customer satisfaction, and brand credibility
  • Facilitates Kaizen Continuous Improvement activies, such as Quality Circles, Lead Time Reduction, and other Komatsu Way continuos improvement activities.
  • Partners with performance leaders and Human Resources to support learning and development activities pertaining to individual, department and location needs.
  • Develops and oversees initiatives to reduce the cost of quality defined as the summation of scrap, rework, and warranty as a percentage of total sales.
  • Improves quality by building process control and standardization into product planning, development, and manufacturing.
  • Proactively engages and facilitates NPD (new product development) quality planning activities in support of new product releases
  • Serves as the liaison between Quality, Operations, Product Support, and Engineering to facilitate customer priority issue resolution; advises and acts as quality subject matter expert to manufacturing leaders and support staff.
  • Assists the management team by providing quality assurance and quality control support towards meeting company goals and objectives.
  • Prepare monthly reports on Internal Quality KPIs, Juhin projects status, cost of poor quality, Zero Hour Pre-Commissioning and 100 Hour/500 Hour issues, warranty analyses in accordance with established company guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in applied science or related technical discipline
  • A minimum of 5  years of job experience in managing operations and/or quality in a large operation or at a senior management level
  • Experience with Plant Internal Quality, Supplier Quality, and Product Support highly desired.
  • Quality Management System: Full understanding of QMS including its design and documentation, standards and guidelines, quality training and auditing, and the cost of quality (COQ). 
  • Registration as an Auditor or Lead Auditor for ISO 9001 by a recognized Registrar Accreditation Board such as ANAB or certification by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Manger / Operation Excellence (CMQOE) highly desired.
  • Ability to apply quantitative tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement, from lean and corrective action to kaizen and Six Sigma.
  • Ability to summarize data, draw statistical conclusions, analyze distributions, test hypotheses, perform capability studies, and design and execute experiments
  • Fluent in risk management:  oversight, assessment, control, auditing, and testing.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb. occasionally
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
