Job Overview

This Senior Environmental Specialist at Komatsu Mining will provide Environmental Management to the Milwaukee, WI facilities.  This Role will work with the Director of Global Environment to ensure the Global EMS and Sustainability Programs are successfully deployed at the Milwaukee, WI facilities. The Senior Environmental Specialist will support and work closely with the Director of Global Environmental in the development and implementation of the Sustainability Program.  

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, evaluates and continuously improves the Environmental Management System for both facilities.
  • Identify/Resolve all internal and external Environmental Regulatory and Technical Issues.
  • Developing/Implementing Environmental Training Programs for both facilities.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains measurable environmental progress, performance, compliance, and sustainability.
  • Coordinates and continuously improves Environmental Investigation and Gap Assessment Processes.
  • Conducts regular evaluations to identify Environmental Compliance Gaps, risk to business issues and maximizes operational flexibility at the Longview and Milwaukee facilities.
  • Determines Environmental Regulations required at each facility. Coordinates and procures required environmental permits. Establishes programs to comply with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, Establishes and maintains the environmental compliance documentation process.
  • Develops and coordinates the Environmental Compliance aspects involved in projects involving health, safety, community relations, and information systems management.
  • Coordinates Company Emergency Response Program with EHS Staff involving Environmental Incidents at both facilities.
  • Champions behavioral-based environmental and safety initiatives.
  • Supports both Facilities Operations Leaders on all Environmental Issues.
  • Develop/Implement Environmental Metrics for Environmental Performance of the both facilities.
  • Ensures all Environmental Projects conform to the Safety Programs implemented at both facilities.
  • Identify/Develop/Implement Environmental Improvement Plans for both facilities to improve and ensure Environmental Compliance.
  • Support Environmental, Maintenance and Safety Projects by generating purchase orders, tracking shipments, paying invoices and documenting paperwork on spreadsheets.
  • Assesses/Advises/Consults with supervisors, etc. in planning, designing, development, construction, installation or modification of equipment and facilities to eliminate or minimize environmental impacts and to comply with appropriate governmental standards and insurance carrier recommendations.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS in Environmental/Chemical/Civil Engineering or environmentally equivalent degree.
  • 2+ years of environmental experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Well versed in the Clean Air Act, The Clean Water Act, RCRA, TSCA, EPCRA, and asbestos regulations.
  • Various remediation techniques experience.
  • Experience in conducting environmental subsurface investigations.
  • Experience in reviewing and preparing various environmental reports along with making evaluations and recommendations.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills at all levels of organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of complex variables in different situations.
  • Experience assessing risk, developing risk mitigation controls, processes and procedures, and systems measurement.
  • Strong ability to identify environmental issue, provide a cost-effective solution, ensure that the solution is sustainable and conduct audits/assessments to ensure solution is permanently maintained.
  • Ability to travel 25-40% in North America.

Desired:

  • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer License after 5 years is highly desired.
  • Candidates with membership in Environmental Organizations are preferred.
  • ISO 14001 experience is desired.
