Job Overview
The Senior EHS Specialist provides leadership and direction to ensure the effective implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of regional and site Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and best management practices. This role oversees EHS activities within operations and drives compliance with national, customer, and company EHS standards, aligned with Komatsu North America and Global Mining Group strategies.
The position supports shop and warehouse operations at the Milwaukee and Oak Creek build-site locations, working approximately 40% in an office environment and 60% in operational settings. The role is highly visible across all organizational levels and interfaces with customers and regulatory agencies. Overnight travel is required less than 25% of the time.
Key Job Responsibilities

Lead, implement, and continuously improve regional and site EHS programs, policies, and best management practices.

Oversee EHS activities within operations to ensure compliance with national, customer, and company standards and corporate mandates.

Support and guide management and EHS representatives by setting goals, strategic direction, and priorities.

Serve as a key partner to operations by analyzing incidents, documenting findings, and ensuring timely implementation of corrective actions; lead investigations for serious incidents as needed.

Collect, analyze, and communicate EHS performance metrics (daily, monthly, quarterly, and annually) to advance organizational initiatives.

Promote pollution prevention and waste minimization efforts to reduce facility waste management costs.

Lead by example to strengthen and sustain the KMT and KNA Group EHS culture.

Act as a change agent to integrate EHS initiatives into core business processes.

Provide technical guidance, training, coaching, and mentoring to managers, supervisors, and employees on EHS requirements.

Monitor injury and illness cases and support injury management efforts to reduce costs and improve outcomes.

Champion organizational EHS policies and principles.

Lead internal program and site audits; support issue identification, corrective action implementation, and closure documentation.

Support regulatory compliance through monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting initiatives.

Assist with environmental compliance related to waste, air emissions, and water quality regulations.

Participate in departmental budgeting and planning; manage assigned EHS budgets as directed by the Sr. Manager EHS.
Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Management or a related field.

5–7 years of progressive EHS experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or construction environments.

CSP, OHST, or similar certification preferred but not required.

Strong knowledge of federal, state/provincial, and national OH&S regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, DOT, EPA).

Training or expertise in OSHA 500, DOT, EPA, Hazardous Communication, WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Hoisting and Rigging, Aerial Work Platforms, and behavioral-based safety preferred.

Experience with Workers’ Compensation injury claims management and best practices.

Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, lead change initiatives, and drive strategic EHS projects.

Proficient computer skills.

Ability to work in office, shop, and warehouse environments with frequent physical activity, exposure to varied climates, noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and hazardous areas requiring PPE and specialized training.

Overnight travel required less than 25% of the time.
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $$76,000-$110,00. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
