Job Overview
The Planner/Scheduler is a key element to our Komatsu Mining Organization and will be involved with but not limited to the following....
- Machine Breakdown Situations. Expedite needed parts to eliminate costly machine downtime for the customer.
- Analyze Engineering Release Notifications (ERN) changes that could affect the field parts planners and on-hand inventory that could result in excess and obsolete material.
- Incorrect parts shipments hurt Komatsu’s reputation and customers want quick resolutions.
- Act as liaison between all departments to get resolution for customers concerns.
This Role will interface directly with, but not limited to the following Komatsu Mining personnel:
- Customer Service – Machine Breakdown Situations/expedite requests/lead time requests/parts clarifications.
- International and Domestic Mine-Pro Personnel – Contact for breakdown situations if no stock available, parts clarification and provide technical support.
- OEM Manufacturing Planners – Daily contact. For machine breakdown situations/expedite requests/late purchase orders.
- Purchasing/Sub-Contract – Expedite requests/lead time request/quantity breaks/purchase order clarifications on quantity ordered/incorrect parts receipts or incorrect purchase orders.
- Accounting – Confirmation on pricing when bringing back material from subsidiaries.
- Invoicing – Confirmation of parts receipt before paying invoices.
- Pricing – Contacted regularly to set parts up before they can go out for quote.
- Engineering – Work Engineering Release Notifications and we work with engineering fort clarification before entering supersede notes in DCS when required. The field needs more explanation that what is written in the ERN so we contact the engineer to get this information and pass it to field planners or customer service reps when asked. Work with engineering when entering information that may need more explanation for the customer to understand.
- Transportation/Logistics – Quote most cost effective way of transportation to meet Customer needs or reduce out of country excess and obsolete inventory that we can use up.
- Quality – When parts are rejected, work with quality inspection to get them cleared or rejected and system reflect outcome, which could be having the part re-worked or a new one ordered and the old one scrapped out.
- Warehouse – Daily contact with warehouse personal to reconcile incorrect shipments/incorrect quantities or anything else that may come up during the course of the day.
- Mining Service – Occasional contact when a warranty issue and replacement parts are needed for the Customer. Parts clarifications or additional requests when needed.
- Technical Publications – Regular contact due to incorrect part number in a parts book out in the field. Corrections need to be made in Technical Publications to get updated information back to the Customer with the correct part number they should be ordering and we need to put a supersede into DCS identifying it was a parts book error so it is corrected for any future orders.
- Field Office Planners - Provide technical support and keep current on the flow of their regions. Aid them in reducing excess and obsolete inventory.
The Planner/Scheduler Role will also work with various blueprints/technical drawings, costs/pricing, Customer sales and shipment date information, confidential internal communications, vendor discretion, etc. to successfully accomplish tasks.....
Key Job Responsibilities
- The Core Responsibility of this Role is to ensure the performance of Komatsu Parts Inventory meets or exceeds the Komatsu’s Performance Indicators. Responsibilities include the Management of Inventory to ensure adequate stock turns are realized, the minimum amount of inventory possible is held in stock and that Customer satisfaction with parts support for the Customer’s equipment is maximized. Work with Regional Support Representatives and warehouse on urgent orders and breakdowns to minimize machine downtime for customers.
- Administer and maintain parts planning forecast and scheduling of service parts for domestic and international customers, field offices, and warehouses. Schedule Incoming Orders (within 24hrs) in manufacturing according to the OEM/Customer needs and purchasing lead times for accurate due dates to be supplied to the Customer. Analyze/schedule incoming requirements daily to support the regional requirements & direct sales, while also verifying needs to minimize errors and the impact to inventory turns.
- Meet Corporate OTD and Turn Rate Goals for service parts, in conjunction with eliminating excess and obsolete inventory to meet corporate E&O reduction goals annually. Focus will be both Milwaukee and Global. Analyze historical usage & CTS (component tracking system) data to develop required inventory stocking levels and maintain planning forecasts. Review demand levels of all parts and adjust stock levels to reflect current demand and usage trends, and ensure stock levels reflect current market requirements. Adjust inventory levels as necessary. Review/analyze customer order cancellation requests to minimize excess/obsolete material and optimize customer satisfaction.
- Act as a liaison between Regional Support and OEM production planners, Engineering, Traffic, warehousing, purchasing, resource planners, and shop expeditors to coordinate the on-time delivery of parts to Customers.
- Provide planning support/training for all assigned Komatsu locations. Deep involvement in creating/maintaining the planning standard operating procedures and work instructions. Driving compliance to Regional Offices and providing support. Single point of contact for assigned Regions. Actively work with the Regions to support company goals/objectives and drive consistency throughout all locations. Participate in monthly planning calls with assigned Regions.
- Learn and master the fundamental planning techniques; SAP forecasting methods, E&O reporting and sharing, exception messages and error reports, MRP, BOM’s, routings, material masters, scheduling, production, product knowledge, and blue print reading
- Promotes Safe Working Practices in the Global Workplace and provide direction where necessary to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all staff, contractors and visitors. Performs role in a safe manner.
Qualifications/Requirements
- BS in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Materials Management, Inventory Management or equivalent work experience is required.
- 1+ year of production/planning and scheduling experience preferred. Ability to read blueprints. Effective organization skills
- Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SAP R/3 proficiency.
- ISM or APICS certifications preferred (CPIM, CPM, CSCP, etc.).
- Ability to interact and influence all levels of the organization.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
