Job Overview

As a Business Intelligence Intern, you will be responsible for a range of support activities for the Surface Factory Analytics team. The Surface Factory Analytics team develops applications and produces data visualizations for both external and internal customers. Activities will include designing, developing, and maintaining interactive dashboards and reports that identify trends, patterns, and insights from data to support strategic decision-making.

This hybrid position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee’s Harbor District. The target start date for this role is Summer 2024 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2024 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process optimization and improvement
  • Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining interactive dashboards and reports for business stakeholders
  • Contribute to data cleansing, transformation, and enrichment processes to ensure data accuracy and quality
  • Participate in requirements gathering sessions to understand the information needs of different departments
  • Help identify trends, patterns, and insights from data to support strategic decision-making
  • Learn and utilize data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Plotly) to present data in meaningful ways
  • Support ad-hoc data analysis requests from different business units

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or similar, from an accredited college or university
  • Junior, senior, or graduate level student in good academic standing
  • Solid understanding of basic business concepts and the role of data in decision-making
  • Proficiency with at least one data visualization tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Plotly)
  • Familiarity with data manipulation and querying languages (e.g., SQL)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework or projects related to business intelligence, data analysis, or data visualization
  • Proficient in using SQL for the manipulation of big data
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and no-SQL database concepts and data modeling
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database technologies (e.g., Snowflake, InfluxDB)
  • Previous internship or project experience involving business intelligence or data analysis
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, R) is a plus
