Job Overview
The Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Engineer is responsible for leading the company's initiative towards establishing a lean production environment. This role serves as a central resource for lean manufacturing, providing day-to-day production support and driving improvements. The position will lead and coach all aspects related to lean production philosophy, productivity enhancements, safety advantages, environmental considerations, and implementation strategies. A robust technical background combined with product and management skills is essential for this role. This position requires interaction across various business functions, including but not limited to: engineering, marketing and sales, production, quality control, documentation, and sourcing
Key Job Responsibilities
- Conduct end to end time studies of work centers/operations
- Develop principal work standards and line balancing for productivity.
- Plan and implement continuous improvement opportunities to reduce cost, improve productivity, safety, quality, velocity, and on-time delivery (OTD). Provide ROI justifications for change.
- Create and modify routings. Routings queries: Assess contents of routing and times. Adjust routing based on findings.
- Assist with improving the quality within the departments.
- Create and maintain Work Instructions for projects to support shop floor improvements, templates and work instructions for Komatsu lean operating system tools, and Advanced Manufacturing departmental work instructions
- Identify, evaluate, and applied Ergonomic principles throughout the shop floor.
- Use Lean tools to support continuous improvement activities, including but not limited to: Kanban, A3, PDCA, VA vs NVA schematic, Yamazumi, standardized work, Workplace Organization/5S, Value Stream Mapping, practical problem solving, Process FMEA.
- Conduct gemba walks (go and see activities) with shop floor and leadership.
- Be the technical leader and driver on owned projects; serve as a coach of lean tools during project implementations; serve as a technical resource to other engineering groups and project leaders.
- Lead multi-functional reviews of project status with key stakeholders
- Develop new and/or improved processes through the application of theoretical and practical engineering.
- Develop and sustain employees training and development on lean concepts.
- Develop measurement systems supporting lean manufacturing philosophy.
- Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.
- Keeps abreast of all meaningful technical trends and developments and incorporates them in appropriate assignments.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required Skills
- Education required: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or similar
- At least 5 years of progressive industrial and/or manufacturing engineering experience acquired through technical knowledge of manufacturing: assembly, machining, gearing, and/or heat treating. A combination of academic and industry experience could be considered.
- Ability to understand production processes and should be aware about the production operations.
- Ability to understand and lead implementation of low-level automation/robotics options.
- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills needed to interact with all areas of business and customers. Ability to analyze complex manufacturing data and propose changes leading to higher efficiency and safety • Must be a team player and understand motivating a team member into lean environment.
- Highly hands-on and strong mechanical aptitude needed.
- Ability to establish and manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proactive and self-motivated, capable of identifying and pursuing new project opportunities with minimal supervision.
- Experience deploying solutions using various problem solving methodologies (PDCA, 8D, DMAIC, Design for Six Sigma, Process FMEA, Design for Manufacturability, etc.
- 50-60% domestic and international travel required
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering
- Reflect reading, analytical, interpersonal, and other knowledge level, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties for the job.
- Experience with ERP Systems (SAP preferred)
- Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in the use of AutoCAD, Solid Works, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project.
- Proven track record of cost reduction, project management, manufacturing floor layout optimization, and engineering design required.
- New product introduction and Manufacturing Operations experience desired. Experience in union-represented workforce a plus.
- Work experience with implementation of adaptable robotics/automation.
- Certification in Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing.

Hiring Range
