Job Overview

We have a newly created opportunity for an IT Supervisor, Data Governance to join our organization as a key member of our Corporate IT team. The IT Supervisor, Data Governance will have the primary responsibility of overseeing data governance initiatives and practices for data across various systems relevant to Komatsu North America Region and Global Mining. The individual in this position will have experience in designing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of our organization's data assets. This individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional IT and business teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to establish and implement data governance best practices, drive compliance, and promote a data-driven culture within the organization. Additionally, this individual will provide leadership, guidance, and support for data governance activities within the data team for Komatsu Corporate IT.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures, to ensure the quality, consistency, and security of organizational data.
  • Lead data governance initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify and define data governance requirements, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Establish data governance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor data quality, compliance, and adherence to data governance standards.
  • Provide guidance and support in data classification, data ownership, data lineage, and data lifecycle management to ensure data governance best practices are followed.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop and deliver data governance training programs and awareness campaigns to promote data literacy and foster a data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Lead and mentor an interdisciplinary team of data governance stakeholders, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative and continuous improving data-driven culture.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data catalogs, and data lineage documentation to ensure transparency and traceability of data assets.
  • Collaborate with IT security, compliance, and audit teams to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Facilitate the resolution of data quality issues, working with data owners, data stewards, and data users to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Monitor and report on data governance program progress, providing regular updates to senior management and key stakeholders on the status of data governance initiatives.
     

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data compliance or related role, preferably in product based heavy machinery industry.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Familiarity with data governance and data management tools, technologies, and data governance platforms.
  • Relevant certifications in data management and governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP) and knowledge of Microsoft Azure services are a plus.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience in program leadership, management, and change enablement.

  • Must be able to apply the seven principles of the KOMATSU Way to their everyday work activities where applicable
  • Proven ability to create and build positive and productive relationships internally with employees and externally with clients and stakeholders
  • Excellent written, oral communication, project management and presentation skills, and the ability to present complex data and statistics in a simple and clear way
