Job Overview
The Human Resources Intern will support a wide range of activities within the HR department, serving the Loading Business Unit employees based in Milwaukee, WI. This onsite role is located at our South Harbor facility in the Harbor District and offers flexible part-time hours during the academic year.
This internship provides hands-on experience across several HR functions and opportunities to work on meaningful projects that drive process improvements and employee engagement
Target Start Date: October 2025
Schedule: Part-time during the academic year (2–3 days onsite required per week)
Key Job Responsibilities

Conduct needs analyses and gather data to identify areas for process improvement

Facilitate interviews and engagement sessions with employees to gather insights

Support the development and implementation of HR process improvement initiatives

Analyze data to identify trends and measure the effectiveness of new initiatives

Partner with other departments to design programs that address key findings

Lead and support events and projects focused on employee engagement

Prepare and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders

Participate in job shadows and attend informational sessions with other departments

Assist with full-cycle recruitment for assigned positions, including:

Prescreening candidates

Scheduling interviews

Supporting hiring managers throughout the process

This role is primarily office-based within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable walking through the shop floor, observing processes, interacting with employees, and collecting data as needed. Meetings may occur in person or virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Building relationships is a key part of this internship. Regular interaction with employees across departments and levels—including peers, supervisors, and management—is expected. Collaboration and cross-functional engagement are strongly encouraged.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Human Resources or a related field
- Junior, Senior, or master’s level student in good academic standing
- Background in any HR-related field, including staffing, recruiting, training, customer service, payroll, or benefits
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with employees across all organizational levels
- Comfortable working independently or collaboratively to complete projects
- Confident presenting to small and large groups
- Experience with HRIS systems is a plus
- Strong time management and organizational skills
