Job Overview
Komatsu Mine Air System climate control units provide air conditioning, heating, air filtration and pressurization comforts to the operator’s cabs and other sensitive areas of mining machines. The Engineering Manager for Mine Air is the lead technical professional accountable for the safety, regulatory compliance, quality, performance, reliability, manufacturability and serviceability of Komatsu Mine Air Systems. Partnering with the product team they are responsible for the execution of NPD, resolution of any product issues and when required, evolving the products to meet industry safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Job Responsibilities
Responsible for the Product Engineering of Mine Air System Products
o Accountable for the safety, regulatory compliance, quality, performance, reliability, manufacturability and serviceability of Komatsu Mine Air Systems products
o Manage engineering activities through established systems, processes and councils
o Possess knowledge and skills to conduct all appropriate calculations to support an engineering investigation of a design issue or to support NPD
o Support strategic product planning activities and roadmaps
o Release products, either NPD, updates, upgrades or order fulfilment, using established processes and procedures
o Support product development, prototyping, testing and manufacturing success with and through the systems/processes of business partners including but not limited to product engineering teams, manufacturing engineering teams, suppliers, operations and field product support teams.
o Develop products in coordination with product management and other business partners that meet and control appropriate cost targets.
o Manage research for development/improvement opportunities
o Ensure Mine Air Engineering possess the latest technical knowledge and use modern analysis tools and techniques
o Oversee and manage to the Mine Air Engineering budget
Provide day-to-day Leadership
o Direct performance leader for Mine Air Engineering Team
o Manage flexible (remote/outsourced/contingent) engineering resources as required for product engineering requirements
o Check the quality of other’s work
o Provide project/product scope estimates
o Communicate and coordinate Engineering activities with other business functions (Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, Manufacturing Engineering, Testing, Business Unit Engineering Teams, Product Support etc.)
o Effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities
o Communicate appropriately with senior leadership, internal teams and customers
Qualifications/Requirements
Required
• A bachelor’s degree in HVAC Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree
• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 3+ years of people leadership experience
• 2+ years of program, project or new product development management experience
• Very detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities and the ability to thoroughly conduct root cause analysis when required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across department lines to influence and build consensus
• Ability to prioritize multiple demands/priorities
• Ability to travel 25%
Current product manufacturing, prototyping and testing is conducted in Longview, TX so frequent travel to the factory will be required if not local to Longview, TX
Comfort in interacting with global distributors, suppliers, affiliates, and regions as well as customers of different cultures; occasional international travel will be required.
Customers use Mine Air Systems in active mine sites. Travel to international mine sites will be required.
Preferred
• Advanced degree(s) in engineering, MBA or related
• Professional Engineer
• Familiarity with common standards is desired: (e.g. ISO, NEC, SAE, ASTM, UL, CSA and/or ASHRAE)
• An understanding of the mining, construction or other heavy equipment industries is an asset
• Experience with Solid Works tools/platforms a plus
