Job Overview

The EHS Specialist Role at Komatsu is a critical Role to the Organization conducting "hands-on" Safety Support of the EHS Programs, Procedures, Reporting, etc.    This Role outlines and implements training programs about Employee Safety Procedures and accident protection and prevention.  The EHS Specialist will also develop and distribute educational materials, inspect company facilities, and recommend corrections or precautions to ensure compliance to established regulations.    

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Safety Resource for a 1,000 employee unionized manufacturing facility and provide support over three shifts.  
  • Coordinate exposure monitoring schedules. Act as liaison to production supervision and personnel for exposure monitoring results, recommendations, and control strategies.
  • Maintain and distribute weekly/monthly statistical health and safety reports to senior management.
  • Ensure required Emergency Response Planning is conducted and implemented.
  • Interface with supervisors and managers regarding health and safety matters. Work with supervisors and technical support personnel on resolving any fall protection issues. 
  • Provide employee and supervisor training on OSHA Regulations (Hazard communication, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hearing Conservation, Powered Industrial Truck, Hoist, Material Handling, Electrical, Ergonomics, etc.)
  • Work directly with Medical and Disabilities Departments on effectively resolving Workers Compensation Claims along with returning employees to work.
  • Interact with vendors, American Lifting (chains/slings), Hytest (shoes), Herslof (prescription glasses).
  • Maintain confined space permits and air monitoring equipment.
  • Monitor contractor safety compliance.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis, system auditing, and ergonomic task analysis.
  • Submit necessary reports to local and state departments OSHA 300 log, Section 311, Tier II reports to Wisconsin Emergency Management, Bureau of Labor Statistics summary, Section 313, Form R report to EPA.
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet electronic database.
  • Participate in multiple Departmental Safety Committees and Facilitate Union/Management Safety Committee.
  • Work with Global Safety Excellence team and Americas North Safety Team to implement consistent processes and policies to Komatsu locations.


  • Bachelors Degree in Safety or a Related Field along with 1+ hands-on years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA compliance and regulations.
  • Safety experience within a Unionized Manufacturing Environment is preferred.
  • Prior exposure to handling multiple projects and prioritization of activities.
  • Workers Compensation Software (WCCMS), Incident Software experience.
  • Strong Computer Skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), GroupWise, AutoCAD, Roxio are needed in this Role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Prior successful experience conducting presentations.
