Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a cost accountant to join our surface mining cost accounting team in Milwaukee, WI. This is a hybrid position. Minimum of two days per week are working on site at our South Harbor campus in Milwaukee for teamwork, collaboration, team meetings, working sessions, etc. and up to three days per week can be telecommuting from your home office. In this role you will be responsible for standard costs maintenance for all Surface original equipment and aftermarket parts in the U.S.

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Own OE Shovel and Drill costs, including production order variances for Milwaukee operations and work with production management to identify root causes of variances.  Develop action plans for minimizing future variances.
  • Owns On-Time Complete financial metrics.
  • Partner with key members of the organization in Make vs Buy analysis.
  • Assists in calculation and analysis of internal cost per hour used for actual results and forecasts.
  • Assists the Cost Accounting Manager with other special projects
  • Standard costs maintenance and all costing-related fields in SAP.  This includes reviewing purchasing info records, bills of material, and labor routings for accuracy.  Approximately 300 new materials created each week that need costing information updated in SAP before the material can be received, shipped, or billed.
  • Performs insightful financial analysis over elements impacting supply chain, including payment terms, cash discounts, etc. Owns the material overhead calculation and monitors spend vs. receipts. Reviews spend by category – direct (purchase complete, manufacture, subcontract) and indirect and reviews trends against COGS and inventory turns)
  • Partners with cross functional areas to identify and help drive costs out of the business. Measures and reports result of cost reduction initiatives
  • Assists in the review contracts along with supply chain and legal to understand financial implications to the business and provide recommendations where necessary. Understands any potential rebates and performance guarantees within the contracts and subsequently monitorsEnsures accounting policies are appropriately followed and SOX controls are implemented and operating as designed. 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  CMA and/or CPA preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience in manufacturing accounting processes and operations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and analyze production order blueprints is a plus.
  • Experience working with SAP production management software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Komatsu or industry products a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking and intuitive problem-solving skills with an attention to detail required.
