Job Overview
The Buyer/Planner II is responsible for planning and procuring materials to support OE and Aftermarket demand while ensuring supplier performance meets delivery, quality, and cost expectations. This role independently manages assigned suppliers and material groups, driving issue resolution and supporting cost reduction initiatives to prevent production disruptions. The position plays a key role in maintaining supply continuity, optimizing inventory, and supporting business objectives through effective supplier management and cross-functional collaboration. This role typically supports a global spend responsibility of approximately $20M-$60M.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Manage procurement and material planning activities (25%) – Plans and executes purchase orders to support OE and Aftermarket demand, ensuring on-time delivery and continuity of supply.
- Drive supplier performance and issue resolution (20%) – Monitors supplier delivery, quality, and cost performance; identifies issues and drives corrective actions with suppliers.
- Execute cost control and reduction initiatives (15%) – Supports and participates in cost reduction activities, including PPV management and continuous improvement efforts.
- Manage supplier relationships and contracts (15%) – Maintains effective supplier relationships and ensures adherence to contractual agreements and sourcing strategies.
- Support supply chain and inventory optimization programs (10%) – Participates in initiatives such as Kanban, VMI, consignment, and inventory optimization strategies.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities (10%) – Works with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Finance to support product changes, issue resolution, and production plans.
- Analyze data and report performance (5%) – Develops and reviews reports to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations, Business, or related field; or Associate’s degree with relevant experience
- 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or materials management
- Experience working in an ERP system (SAP preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Travel requirement: ~10% (supplier visits, audits, business meetings)
Preferred Skills
- PMP, CPIM, CSCP, or CPM certification
- Experience with supplier performance management and cost reduction initiatives
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Knowledge of supply chain programs (Kanban, VMI, consignment)
- Familiarity with Komatsu products and subcontract manufacturing processes
