Job Overview

The Material Handler is responsible for individual efficiency and quality of work being produced and maintain a safe, clean and productive work environment while ensuring proper documentation is completed timely and accurately. This role may also be responsible for the shipment, receipt and distribution of incoming supply and outgoing product or the maintenance of storage yards and related facilities.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with shipping and receiving: unloads trucks, checks incoming materials against packing slips, assigns materials to proper locations, and issues materials to receiving crews or production teams.
  • Updates and maintains the warehouse location system.
  • Arranges shipping/transport and maintains shipping supplies inventory.
  • Uses SAP to investigate inventory quantities and locations.
  • Accepts or rejects vendor inventory transactions.
  • Processes sales orders and invoices according to company procedures.
  • Prepares materials and equipment for installation or shipping.
  • Loads and unloads materials to defined locations manually or using mechanical equipment.
  • Keeps docks and scrap bins orderly, salvages reusable scrap materials.
  • Maintains a safe and clean warehouse, yard, and equipment/trucks.
  • Inspects warehouse and yard buildings/storage racks for maintenance needs and reports irregularities to the Supply Chain Manager/Warehouse Supervisor with recommended actions.
  • Uses manual shovels, brooms, or operates mechanical sweepers and snow blowers to clean yards and related areas as needed.
  • Performs picking functions to support production or customer orders.
  • Ensures warehouse and yard premises are locked and secured as required.
  • Assists in cycle counting and physical inventory.
  • Completes paperwork and files documentation, keeping accurate records of receipts and shipments.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months minimum related warehousing experience with shipping/receiving.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, fast moving work environment under minimal supervision.
  • Strong sense of accountability and demonstrated initiative for assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong sense of teamwork in order to collaborate with various departments on logistics/inventory matters.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated, broad team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Flexible, self-motivated with demonstrated initiative.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work shift work as required.
  • Willingness to learn.

Compensation Range

For this role, the hourly base range is $20.00 to $24.00 CAD. The final offer will be determined based on several factors, including the candidates' skills, experience, qualifications, and the position location.
