Job Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer for the Value Innovation Group will lead cross functional cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations. This position will identify, evaluate, develop, and implement opportunities that reduce product and process costs while maintaining or improving safety, quality, delivery, and performance.
The ideal candidate will have practical and demonstrated knowledge of fabrication, welding, painting, and assembly processes, along with experience developing manufacturing methods that consistently produce parts to print specifications.
The Manufacturing Engineer will use manufacturing knowledge, data analysis, value engineering, process improvement, and project management methods to develop financially supported recommendations and move approved projects from concept through implementation.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize cost reduction opportunities involving product design, manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, materials, labor, suppliers, and material flow.
- Select tools and programs related to automated equipment, such as CNC machine tools by utilizing CAD/CAM and computer software to effectively utilize manpower, machines, and facilities.
- Complete projects assigned timely by utilizing project planning tools and communicating with all aspects required to successfully complete each project.
- Recommends tooling, equipment to assist Fabrication and Warehousing through confirmation process flow for existing Models and revised and/or new Models along with warehouse processes.
- Understand capital and departmental budget to assist in cost management while improving the safety, quality, and cost of all processes assigned.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing tools, line balancing, 5S, Standard Work Instructions, Gemba, Kaizen, PDCA, Poke Yoke, and Visual Factory
- Perform time studies to determine best manufacturing/warehouse practice and develop “Make Vs. Buy” analysis.
- Identifies bottleneck areas and make recommendations to reduce and/or eliminate – goal is to increase efficiency. Maintains an up to date layout of the area assigned.
- Supports the departmental goals and apply experience to achieve timely resolve of assigned tasks. Ensure ISO documents are updated.
- Other activities as assigned by management.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the manufacturing engineering field. Five or more years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience preferred.
- Specific and demonstrated experience with understanding, developing and driving manufacturing improvements through design, manufacturing and process improvement projects.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and move initiatives from concept through implementation.
- Proficient with all computer applications, i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point, Project Management etc.
- Proficient using 3D CAD and AutoCAD software.
- High level of skill in setting standards, improving manufacturing methods, layout design, assembly tooling/fixtures, line balancing, equipment justification and developing assembly worksheets.
- Excellent verbal, written, and telephone communication skills are essential.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements to develop processes that produce high quality parts.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are required.
- Patience, persistence, and problem-solving skills are very important.
- Must comply with all environmental and safety rules, and practices.

Scope:
- Proactively identifies, evaluates, and prioritizes value innovation and cost reduction opportunities involving product design, manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, materials, labor, suppliers, and material flow.
- Evaluates and recommends manufacturing methods, tooling, equipment, and process changes for current, revised, and new models.
- Leads selected cost reduction initiatives from initial concept through approval, implementation, and validation of results.
- Coordinates project execution across Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, suppliers, and other affected groups.
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $85,600 - $110,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
