Job Overview
The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving quality systems related to the manufacturing of heavy machinery. This position will develop and maintain Quality Control Plans across all stages of the manufacturing process, from incoming material to finished goods and handle all processes and documentation related to product inspection and final release. Additionally, they will lead root cause analysis processes to ensure resolutions to non-conformances remove the potential for recurrence. They will collaborate with a multi-functional team to continuously improve quality in alignment with vendor quality and manufacturing requirements to maintain efficiency, reduce costs, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and perform QMS (Quality Management System) audits to ensure that all procedures and instructions related to the QMS are adhered to.
- Prepare and manage the overall Quality Control Plan for all steps in the manufacturing process from incoming material to shipping of finished goods.
- Lead drafting and continuous review of factory inspection and test plan (ITP).
- Audit ITP folder after the unit is complete, determine where corrective actions, process changes, etc. are required and follow through to closure of the actions.
- Implement methods & tooling to inspect components, test equipment, and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes and production equipment.
- Review Engineering changes as they are released to judge their effect on QA documents.
- Coordinate New Model release activity, gathering all manufacturing, assembly, testing, and BOM information to successfully perform the inspection/test of these products.
- Collect failure data from warranty claims, feedback from Service department/Customers, etc. regarding specific machine failures. Summarize this data in terms of the number of failure occurrences and affected machine models.
- Lead root cause analysis for product field issues through formal risk analysis procedures with broader aftermarket and product team members to ensure issue resolution is implemented and communicated as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- 3+ years of previous experience with quality management systems, vendor quality management, and quality engineering in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- ISO9001 Internal Auditor Certification or internal audit experience is an asset.
- Previous training and experience using 6S/Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with industrial health and safety regulations and requirements/best practices.
- CAD or AutoCAD skills.
- Project Management experience.
- Experience with multi-level design engineering BOMs
- Excellent analytical skills and high attention to detail with extensive experience in data collection and analysis.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Good communication skills to work efficiently with internal production, management, sales personnel, and customers/vendors as required.
- Proficient computer skills to file reports and maintain quality documentation control, including MS Office (Excel, Word) and ERP system use. SAP experience is an asset.
- Ability to review and understand drawings/blueprints and familiarity with measuring systems.
- Business acumen to interpret larger scope projects.
