Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design and Analysis: As a Mechanical & Structural Designer, your primary responsibility will be to design, analyze, and test structural and mechanical components using SolidWorks CAD system. Ensuring the integrity and efficiency of capital equipment is crucial to enhance mining operations.
  • Technical Support: Provide essential support during the equipment assembly phase to ensure precision and functionality, guaranteeing top-quality products for our clients.
  • Shop Drawing Packages: Create detailed shop drawing packages including SRF and General Assembly drawings to facilitate equipment production and maintenance processes.
  • Engineering Change Notices: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address engineering change notices and non-conformance reports, driving continuous improvement in design and production.
  • Proposal Drawings: Prepare accurate proposal drawings and cost estimates to support sales activities and engage with clients effectively.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Powertrain, Hydraulic, and Electrical Engineers to optimize design solutions, ensuring comprehensive and innovative product outcomes.
  • On-site Support: Offer on-site support by visiting customer locations, addressing sales, commissioning, and maintenance issues to uphold client satisfaction.
  • Spare Parts Lists: Recommend and compile spare parts lists to ensure operational continuity and support client needs efficiently.
  • Functional Tests: Conduct thorough functional tests in collaboration with production and quality teams to verify equipment performance post-construction.
  • Problem-solving: Utilize your problem-solving skills to investigate, calculate, and test solutions, maintaining exceptional quality standards in all design processes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Hold a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field, showcasing a strong foundation in engineering principles.
  • Bring 3+ years of experience in designing underground hard rock equipment, demonstrating expertise in mechanical design standards and techniques.
  • Possess knowledge and experience in weldment design, stress analysis, and familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding and machining.
  • Show proficiency in 3D CAD design, particularly using SolidWorks, as well as experience with FEA and Ansys for structural analysis.
  • Exhibit familiarity with Microsoft Office software, project management methodologies, and ERP systems (experience with SAP is an asset).
  • Understand Bill of Materials and MRP systems, including handling ECNs and NCRs effectively.
  • Demonstrate a detail-oriented mindset, emphasizing accuracy, quality, and adherence to design standards and EHS regulations.
  • Showcase strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Possess knowledge of fluid mechanics, electrics, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
