Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Electrical Design Supervisor, the Electrical Designer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team and is responsible for the design and development of extra-low, low & high voltage electrical systems for underground hard rock mobile mining equipment. This includes creating electrical schematics, selecting components, supporting prototype builds, developing, and executing design validation plans to meet the performance and cost targets.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Design basic electrical systems for underground mobile mining equipment using electrical engineering principles and technologies.
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop an understanding of product functionality and characteristics required for electrical system needs.
- Create full electrical schematics, harnesses, and panel drawings for mining mobile equipment.
- Support production with build issues and troubleshooting.
- Create and execute test and validation plans for new product development and production.
- Ensure cross-discipline system functionality including coordination with mechanical, hydraulic, aftermarket, production, purchasing, etc.
- Provide continuous support to the production team during the assembly phase of capital equipment builds.
- Implement and maintain electrical design and drafting standards and processes
- Work with the suppliers and manufacturing to provide the specifications for production launch.
- Work closely with vendors to optimize component selection.
- Provide technical support to service department to resolve design issues and commissioning issues.
- Research and test new components or technology that will contribute to continuous improvement of design.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Electrical Engineering degree or Electrical Technologist diploma with applicable experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in electrical design, preferably for mobile equipment or related industry
- Experience with electrical calculations such as load analysis, voltage drop and short-circuit calculations.
- Experience with electrical testing equipment and procedures.
- Experience with BEV design & testing is considered an asset.
- Up to 10% international travel to customer sites to support Hard Rock staff.
- Good understanding of electrical engineering principles and fundamentals of electrical systems design.
- Familiarity with CAD software and basic electrical components.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic issues related to electrical systems.
- Basic understanding of the integration of electrical systems and their components.
- Ability to perform simple tests and understand basic principles of system validation.
- Basic understanding of regulatory requirements and standards relevant to electrical design
- Some knowledge of electrical engineering principles i.e. circuit design & power distribution.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high quality work.
Compensation Range
At Komatsu, base pay is just one part of a comprehensive total compensation package designed to support and reward our employees.
For this role, the annual base compensation range is $70,000 CAD to $85,000 CAD. The final offer will be determined based on several factors, including the candidates' skills, experience, qualifications, and the position location.
