Job Overview

The PRODUCT MANAGER - SURFACE MINING DRILLING TOOLS will Interface and Build Effective Relationships with, but not limited to, the following:


  • To provide knowledge of products and services.
  • Resolve issues, provide solutions, and create new opportunities
  • To help customers attain the contracts and projects this will ensure our next sale
  • To offer solutions and alternatives to issues and concerns and ensure our sustainability in the marketplace
  • Often contact current customers to set up meeting to discuss new products


  • To discuss quotes, sales history, costing to confirm costs reported on work orders, ensure costing is completed and accurate


  • To maintain an on-going positive relationship which will give Komatsu Mining an edge when pricing and delivery are key to maintaining our current customers and acquiring new customers/business.


  • To help in the development of our products and to assist with troubleshooting our customers problems.


  • To discuss and obtaining additional information and knowledge the products and processes and to help them understand the history and development of our products.


  • For direction and clarification on the organization’s goals, objectives, and expectations.


Percentage of Travel:  40%....   The Product Manager - Surface Mining Drilling Tools will visit current customers and discuss business with potential new customers....    Canada, US, Mexico, Europe, South America, North and South Africa

This Role could potentially be based in either the United States or in Canada......


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop/maintain Strategic Product Plan, including market requirements, competitive landscape, gaps, product positioning, lifecycle, pricing, operations footprint & product support plan.
  • Support Sales Process with Technical & Commercial Input to Tenders & Sales/Operations Planning Process.  Prepare/Provide detailed quotes verifying costing to ensure that profit margin is competitive. Additional Sales Support Activities may include lead generation, assisting on sales calls, making presentations, providing training, sharing competitive market intelligence, product application support/analysis.
  • Oversee Current Product Offering Competitiveness through driving pricing/configuration updates to the Master Price List with Commercial Management. Evaluate requests from the Field & Participate in Product Definition meetings to ensure compliance to customer requirements.
  • Provide detailed product cost analysis; communicate & maintain regular contact with vendors to ensure product quality/on-time delivery, while meeting product cost targets.
  • Visit Customers to present products, build relationships & understand applications, requirements & market.  Host factory visits from customers.
  • Research customers’ needs or VOC to Identify New Product Development Opportunities. Build Functional Specifications/Business Plans for the development of new products, configurations or features.
  • Identify Potential Customers & work with Regions to secure agreements for test programs.  Assist with creation of test plan.  Actively participate in, monitor & communicate status of testing.
  • Create Marketing Materials for Surface Drilling Tool Products with Marketing Communications, including presentations, competitive comparisons, animations, videos, literature and promotional materials.
  • Perform Research on Industry Conditions, Product Performance & Competitive Activity.  Build/leverage relationships with Customers, Region Sales & Service Personnel & other Suppliers in the industry to achieve the level of expertise needed to properly position our products.  Prepare/Present Technical Presentations at Industry Conferences.
  • Participate in Product Quality Reviews and Issue Resolution meetings. Help clarify, prioritize & solve product issues by visiting the sites to investigate root cause analysis. Make recommendations to the customer & discuss resolution with management & shop staff.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Marketing or related field is required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in product management, product development, or product marketing is required.
  • Direct industry experience with blasthole drilling and/or consumables operational experience is desired.
  • Must have excellent communication and public speaking skills with an ability to demonstrate confidence in material.
  • Technical aptitude and experience with market analysis, strategic planning, and equipment sales is desired.
