Job Overview

The position is responsible for independently managing, analyzing, scheduling, and procuring of commodity group or groups, (raw materials, components, fabrications, finished goods, supplies, and services) that support the production and service of this equipment. The incumbent is the direct link between the materials, production, quality, service, finance and engineering organizations within the company.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire purchasing life cycle including engineering development, supplier candidate identification, quoting, supplier selection, purchase order entry, purchase order maintenance (move in/outs, expediting, cancellation) to actual receipt.
  • Assigned commodities are procured to assure quality, cost, and delivery for uninterrupted flow of material to the end user; whether that supply exists domestically or globally.
  • Manage supplier relationships through building new contacts, development & maintaining positive & productive working relationships and ensuring supplier performance metrics are accomplished.
  • Contracts and agreements are negotiated and written, in conjunction with Legal Department, to provide the best possible terms for the company while not sacrificing the integrity of the relationship with the supply base.
  • Inventory levels are managed to optimize availability through the entire product life cycle at the lowest investment to support all customers/demand streams.
  • Independently analyze and recommend appropriate actions to maintain and reduce inventory levels to support departmental objectives.
  • Cost improvement activities are independently initiated and completed in order to provide the company with best total cost of ownership value.
  • The business system is used fully to maximize utilization and efficiency. Additionally investigate, analyze, and recommend streamlined process improvements.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to other Supply Chain personnel to improve their skills in Purchasing techniques and strategies, and to encourage/champion initiatives.
  • Ability to independently create training documentation and facilitate training sessions.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • This position requires the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering plus five to ten years experience in an industrial procurement organization.
  • The position requires a broad and in-depth knowledge of purchasing, manufacturing, materials and inventory management, quality, information systems, finance, and engineering drawings.
  • The incumbent must possess solid decision-making skills, strong analytical skills, and demonstrate critical-thinking abilities.
  • Working knowledge of integrated business systems is required to effectively execute the responsibilities of the position.
  • The position also requires a level of understanding of the mining industry to effectively support operations and identify threats, weaknesses, opportunities and strengths in the supply base and to manage those factors to the best overall company advantage.
  • The incumbent must also possess a high level of computer skills including office automation and business systems.
  • The position also requires the business acumen to understand supply chain concepts and how they impact the bottom line
