Job Overview

This position is critical to the success of Komatsu as it involves direct supervision of technicians in a fast-paced environment. The Service Supervisor will ensure that all work is scheduled efficiently, and that communication is effectively relayed between teams and customers regarding repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment. This role is not only managerial but also involves hands-on oversight of the service processes and compliance with the company's policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing customer satisfaction and driving operational excellence.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of shop and field repairs, ensuring high-quality service and maintenance of equipment, while directing troubleshooting and inspection efforts to identify issues swiftly and accurately.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive and dynamic repair schedule for all technicians, ensuring effective workload distribution and prioritization of tasks.

  • Create detailed work orders and manage the ordering process for necessary parts and materials, ensuring compliance with company policies for efficient invoicing and service closure.

  • Maintain proactive communication with customers by providing timely repair estimates, change recommendations, and following up on scheduling and completion dates to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Take responsibility for overseeing the condition of all new equipment from receipt to delivery, while keeping accurate records and providing feedback to the sales team.

  • Assist the Sales Department by providing repair estimates and scheduling services, while overseeing the incoming condition of rented units to ensure optimal maintenance standards.

  • Coordinate interactions with outside vendors and manufacturer personnel to facilitate the timely service and maintenance of equipment.

  • Ensure that the maintenance areas—including shops, bays, trucks, and tool rooms—are kept safe and clean, fostering a productive and hazard-free environment for all staff.

  • Assume accountability for the maintenance and condition of specialized tooling, making updates as required to adhere to safety and operational standards.

  • Manage failed parts removed from all machinery, ensuring careful tracking and compliance with company guidelines.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • An Associates Degree in Diesel or Equipment Technology or a related field is essential; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a heavy equipment technician, with a strong background in construction or mining machinery.

  • A thorough understanding of fundamental mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural systems is required to diagnose and resolve issues effectively.

  • Knowledge of company products—including specifications, applications, operation, maintenance, and repair processes—is critical for success in this role.

  • Certification to operate a forklift and/or manlift is necessary, demonstrating a commitment to safety and operational efficiency.

  • Must be willing to complete MSHA certification to stay up-to-date with safety standards in the industry.

  • A complete set of mechanics tools that complies with the minimum requirements established by Komatsu Equipment Company is mandatory to perform required tasks.

  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures is expected, as well as a commitment to exemplifying the company's values in all professional interactions.

Additional Information

  • This role regularly exposes individuals to moving mechanical parts and hazardous chemicals; adherence to safety protocols is paramount.

  • Candidates should be prepared to work in varying conditions including wet and humid environments, at heights, and outdoors in all weather.

  • Work conditions may occasionally include extreme heat, potential electrical hazards, and exposure to vibrations.

  • Sound levels in the work environment are generally moderate; however, this may vary based on equipment usage.

  • Completion of a DOT physical may be necessary as part of the job requirements for safety and operational readiness.
