Job Overview
The HR Generalist (HRG) under the direction of the HR Manager provides HR services to salaried employees and hourly employees in the operations and operations support functions for Homer City, PA. The HRG serves as a point of contact for employee relations within their client group. Additional responsibilities include recruiting, compensation, benefits, absence administration, training facilitation, personal development and related projects. The incumbent must form strong partnerships with internal and external client groups and within the HR function for effectiveness.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Assist the HR Manager in the Performance Management Process for all exempt/non-exempt employees including preparation of position descriptions and job evaluations.
- Maintains compensation records for salaried and hourly employees. Initiates all documents for personnel actions including organizational charts, job descriptions, etc...
- Coordinate with KMC U.S. operations personnel (HR Ops) associated with employee communication programs, supervisory training, employee education programs, etc. to ensure an effective employee communication and training programs are in place.
- Assists the HR Manager in administering all health and welfare benefit plans, including health, dental, AD&D, LTD, and Workers' Compensation.
- Assists HR Manager in administering disability programs including FMLA, A&S, LTD, and Workers' Compensation. Monitors claims and works with third party administrators and medical community to assure compliance with company procedures.
- Administers pension plans and retirement savings plans for all employees. Assists with obtaining retirement calculations, interviews, and maintains retiree files.
- Knowledge of the Employee Handbook for labor group assigned.
- Maintain knowledge of employee complaints and work with site management to proactively address recurring issues.
- Assist HR Manager, with progressive discipline policies/procedures. Coach others on how to use and follow these policies/procedures and identify those needing involvement of legal counsel.
- Ability to coach managers/supervisors on morale and employee fairness issues. A participant in Employee Engagement activities & goals.
- Assist with managing reduction in force initiatives and legal compliance.
- Maintains and assures accuracy of electronic and hard-copy Human Resources data base via Employee Central (EC).
- Maintains current and accurate attendance records for each hourly employee and advises facility management when disciplinary action is required.
- Assist in recruitment, interview, and selection process to meet the staffing needs at Homer City. Maintain Applicant Tracking System. Maintain AAP records.
- Prepares Offer Letter, Rejection Letter, and Promotion Letters.
- Assist Human Resources Manager, with delivering and facilitating training programs as needed.
- Assist Human Resources Manager, with special projects & responsibilities as required.
- Provides orientation to all new employees involving explanation of personnel procedures and benefit packages.
- Communicates the benefit package for new programs to the organization through correspondence and/or direct contact.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and keeps updated on changes in government regulations regarding COBRA, Workers' Compensation, personnel record keeping, etc. Confidentiality is assured and maintained.
- Assist in coordinating the communication & training programs at the facility.
- Act as Wellness Champion for the KMC Wellness committee. Drive local and corporate wellness initiatives.
- Explore, develop, and recommend cost improvement ideas that will benefit the Company.
Qualifications/Requirements
- BS degree in Human Resources or a BS in business with HR focus.
- Requires 3-5 years of experience in the Human Resource field.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Knowledge of HR policies, performance management, employee engagement, and workplace investigations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Conflict resolution and employee relations expertise.
- Problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Confidentiality and professionalism.
