Job Overview


The Field Service Technician III is a senior-level technician responsible for advanced welding and mechanical work on heavy equipment in shop and field environments. The role requires strong safety leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to independently plan and execute complex work under general supervision from a Leadperson or Superintendent.

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform complex work to very close limits of accuracy and quality, requiring sustained visual attention and manual dexterity.
  • Set cribbing, hydraulic jacks, and safety jack stands to lift electric shovels.
  • Field machining capabilities including bore welding, setup, and cutting.
  • Knowledge of aligning couplings on motors, transfer cases, and gearboxes.
  • Prevent damage to equipment and materials by applying strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Work effectively within a diverse team environment; coordinate work to support team and site objectives.
  • Travel as required based on business needs and company objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • 3–5 years of experience in a similar role performing advanced welding and mechanical work on heavy equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and safely operate electrical and pneumatic power tools while working within a defined scope of work.
  • Completed accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft, or occupation; or 1-year technical college education (preferred)
  • Ability to interpret complex drawings, specifications, charts, and tables.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (all variations).
  • Advanced mechanical troubleshooting skills, including use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Proficiency in TIG and MIG welding procedures, with advanced skills across multiple welding applications.

 

Preferred Certifications

 

  • Forklift (task trained; requirement may vary by site).
  • Fire extinguisher (task trained).
  • Confined space (task trained).
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) (task trained).
  • Fall protection (task trained).
  • Crane (task trained).
  • Rigging (certified rigging preferred).
  • MSHA certification (preferred/required per site).
