Job Overview

The Credit Manager is responsible for general oversight of the Credit and Collections function.  Inherent in these duties is the supervision of the A/R staff, driving timely collection of receivables, maintaining positive customer relationships via frequent interaction, and completion of required reconciliations and management reports.  This role also contributes to the establishment of appropriate credit and collections policies and procedures and ensures proper mitigation of credit risk via administration and execution of said procedures.

Scope:

Komatsu Equipment Company (KEC) is a wholly owned dealer/distributor/subsidiary of Komatsu America, which is a subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd in Japan.   KEC has annual revenues of approximately $300M sold through 11 branch locations covering a territory which includes Utah, Nevada, parts of Wyoming, New Mexico and Texas, with a corporate office in Salt Lake City Utah.  Collection activities pertain to revenue resulting from new and used equipment sales, equipment rentals, repair services, and parts sales.  Credit Manager will supervise a team of 4 Collections and A/R specialists, while also coordinating with Sales and other personnel to collect past due balances.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee account collection, working with customers to collect balances due in a timely manner, escalating to appropriate branch, Sales, and management personnel as required to effectively manage and maintain Accounts Receivable balances at appropriate levels. 
  • Administer and execute an appropriate credit application and approval process, initiating recommendations for the granting of credit in accordance with approval authority limits.
  • Provide reports as required to effectively communicate credit and collections issues to branches, management, and customers
  • Maintain accurate subsidiary ledgers and monthly reconciliation of assigned accounts and follow up on issues identified in a timely manner and in accordance with deadlines.
  • Perform analyses and reporting of required bad debt reserves, accounts sent to collections or attorneys, bankruptcy claims, liens, etc. coordinating with management as required to appropriately manage financial risk associated with credit sales.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Accounting/Finance or related field
  • 5+ Years prior experience managing the Credit function (unsecured credit)
  • 5+ Years prior experience supervising staff
  • 5+ Years prior experience with A/R related accounting and reporting
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and customer credit history
  • Ability to effectively interface/communicate in person, by phone, and by written communication, with customers, distributors, Finance and Legal communities, and internal Komatsu personnel
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing effective internal control practices, Credit policies and procedures
  • Ability to learn the company’s products, processes, policies and procedures, financial systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State legal and tax requirements as they pertain to Sales, credit, and collections
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn information technology applications to complete assigned duties
  • A process improvement mindset
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritizing work as necessary to ensure timely completion.
  • Occasional travel required
  • Ability to work in an office environment
  • May require work outside of normal business hours
  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate light to medium weights of up to 10 pounds.  Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and the visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read application information.  The associate is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and see.
